STILL trying to get rid of swirls/scratches (PICS INCLUDED) - any hope?
I've been trying to get rid of these for months with no results. I've used the 3M #39009, Meguiars #9, and Zaino Z5/Z2 and they just won't go away. I've been very careful with my car. I wash it frequently, I keep all my towels and wash mitt clean and the edges are cut off, and I only use Royal Velvet towels. My car has good shine to it, but these scratches really degrade what could be an outstanding looking car. Here's some pictures of what I'm talking about.

Does anyone live near kraka to take a look in person at his car and can help him with his problem.

You too, eh?
I have the same problem. I'm pretty much to the point now where I don't believe anything will eliminate this problem.
Let me guess, car looks great in the shade or on cloudy days, right?
If I find a solution, I'll let you know.

You have some pretty serious and deep scratches and marks, and I see some gouges and scuffs here and there. The 39009 and #9 Meguiars are very, very mild abrasives, you need to get something more aggressive and work in with an orbital buffer and a foam pad (doing it by hand will do nothing for scratches as bad as yours)
Start with 3M Finesee It II (much more aggressive than the 39009), then step down to the 39009 and then wash with Dawn and then re do the Zaino, this should be the ticket.

Wow thanks for the quick replies. Jeff- Yeah the car looks great when it's not in the sun or from far away, and I want it to look like that regardless of lighting. I actually took my car to a pro body shop about a week ago and he told me that my car looked good and there's nothing wrong with it. He was like "Oh it's just because it's black. It's fine". He showed me his red truck and it was swirled to hell also, so I don't think I'll be getting any detailing work done there.
KevinSS- I had my dad work a small area of my car with a buffer/foam pad and the #39009 but that didn't help much. I wanted him to try using the 3M Rubbing Compound #39002 on it, but he's been really busy lately. I will see if I can find the Finesse-It II stuff and give it a try. I guess I will try the Finesse-It before trying the rubbing compound because rubbing compound might be too harsh.

Kraka, sorry to jump on in your post like that. I have also tried the 39009 and the Meguiars ScratchX (I think). I have a LOT of scratches that are similar to your bad scratches, not the swirls. It's almost like the car was dried with a towel that came right from the beach.

I didn't have any luck with those products either, other than the fact that they made the areas surrounding the scratches look better. I'm going to try the 3M Finesse-It II Finishing Material on a small location with my orbital buffer and foam pad before I bring it to a professional.
Hopefully we both will save a few hundred dollars without completely screwing up our paint.

Good luck!
Mike

I had swirl marks way worse than that and bought the Meguiar's Deep Crystal (or something like that) 3 step clean/polish/wax system and used it the other day and they are all but gone from my car. I did it by hand and was hurrying to beat the impending storm that decided to roll my way since my car was shining like a ****! I'd definitely recommend that stuff for it.
