Post showing and cotton???

I've been surfing around online and I have come across several pictures of cars with cotton stuffed around the wheels and bottom sides of the cars. I've seen this done with mainly imports, but on a mustang as well. Does anyone know the reason behind all this?

I was talking to one of my friends last night and he suggested it was to help keep the tires cool and not melt... this seems crazy to me, but he was convinced. Is that a possibility???

I don't think you need to worry about tires melting. The only time they heat up is when you are driving and the cotton wouldn't stay there anyway. I can't see any reason, other than to make the tires and wheels show up better for the pic.

Maybe it's a north-eastern thing? That's where all the picutres I saw were from.

IT DOES LOOK PRETTY STUPID, BUT I THINK ITS TO DRESS UP THE CAR OR KIND OF MAKE A STAGE FOR IT.

I give up. It must be so the car looks like it's floating on clouds?

It looks pretty silly.

It started out on cars that are suposed to be fast. The put cotton behind the drive wheels to look like smoke off of a burnout. I didn't much like it then and I really dont like the cotton all under the car. One thing is for sure, it is for show purpose.

The burnout idea makes complete since, but i'd pull the cotton apart to make it more "wispy" instead of that clumpy looking presentation.
oh well, that's one show idea you will never see me do!

I used to be real big into imports. The only reason for the cotton is looks. I have no idea what the person was thinking when they said the tires melt. I dont personaly care for it.

This is the first I've ever heard of it and frankly, I think it looks very bizarre.

Maybe it's to make your car look like it's floating on a puffy-gay cloud.
