Post question about this new wax.....

i think its turtle wax, the one that is designed for specific colors......my friend bought it and used it on his black mustang....damn thing looked great afterwards, it covered up all the swirl marks.........but he said it goes away quickly.....so i was thinking about buying some of this stuff, putting a coat of it on the car and putting a coat of some maguirs over that to seal it. what do you think?????

You're certainly welcome to try it, but I think you'll notice the same thing as your friend. After a couple rain showers or car washes the oils and fillers will wash away. Waxing with Meguiar's afterwards might help with durability some, but I'd estimate one month, or maybe earlier depending on weather, before you notice your car looks the way it did before you waxed it. Waxes designed for specific colors or specific cars, i.e. Turtle Wax, Zymol, etc...are more marketing than function. Personally, I'd suggest you skip the TW and remove the swirls with Meguiar's #9 then follow with the Meguiar's wax, Gold Class, #26, Medallion etc... Even when the wax wears away, since you removed the swirls (not covered them with oils and temporary fillers) your car will look better anyhow.

Yeah, I find #9 at AutoZone, NAPA, most big chains should carry a big line of Meguiar's. If you can't find the #9, 3M Swirl Remover (#39009) is equivalent. Gold Class used to be one of my favs from Meguiar's. It shines really well, but I was unhappy with the protection and durability. Anyhow, yeah, the Body Scrub is kinda chemically smelling, and it does the trick if your finish needs some deeper cleaning and restoring, like stains, water spotting, dead paint, etc... If you want to use it, I'd do the BS first, then the swirl remover, then the GC wax. Should turn out nicely!
