What is the best way to get that deep, glossy shine on the windshield and glass? Rainex is difficult to apply and seems to have a problem with Windex afterward. Are there other products that you guys know of?

 

Theres really no science to glass cleaning. You need to start with surface care. Give it a clay treatment, then a good cleaning twice over! Dont let it get dirty to begin with either......

 

What is a clay treatment

 

Clay is a product which you can use to remove, pull, or sheer off embedded fallout from non-porous surfaces. It feels like clay, smells like clay, and loks like clay, simply put, but made specifically for the automotive industry.
Use the same type of clay that you treat the painted surface with. Youll be surprised at all the crap that gets gummed up on your glass. As for interior, good glass cleaners, and quality microfibers normally do the trick. Its just persaverance, you need to keep cleaning until your satisfied with your results.

 

I'm a bit curious about this too-I use windex and microfiber towels to clean the windows on my car, and they streaked! Another one of my car friends said to use newspapers-anybody else have experience with this?

 

yes use newspaper less streaks, also I dont like windex, I use the GM glass cleaner, seems to work the best. on the outside, dont use windex if you use rainx, it will just smear the rainx around. I use a bit of dish soap on a rag to wipe off the windsield, then use the gm glass cleaner as lube for claybar, then use newspaper with gm glass clenaer to clean, then reaply rainx.

try not to get the dishsoap on your paint as it will remove wax

 

I personally use Windex or any generic glass cleaner with a 100% bath towel.

- Spray some glass cleaner on the 100 % cotton towel (sparingly)
- Use circular motions then up and down, side to side to spread the cleaner everywhere. (Be sure to do 1/2 of the rear/front glass at one time).
- Flip the towel and "buff" the glass. Voila......clean glass.

BTW: Thanks "exceldetail" for the clay bar tip....never thought I could use it on glass. Will keep this in mind for future cleaning.

Anyone seen those new "window polish" kits at Autozone? Curious as to how they would work on the 80-ka-billion shallow stone chips and minor swirl marks?

 

all you need is steel wool and glasscleaner to clean it and then wax it if you wanna be hihg speed...... just dont steel wool the inside if you have tint or you will be pretty mad. everyone can think of millions of awesome ways to make everything look great but when it comes down to it with car care keep it simple the rest is a waste simply use some steel wool to clean it a lil and then use class cleaner next...... too easy
