Professional Question for KevinSS

Hey Kevin, I know you are a pro detailer and I have a few questions for you, if you don't mind.

I got 3 vehicles here with specks of overspray here and there all over the vehicle. The cars are a 99 Suburban, 02 F-350 Crew, and an 00 PT Cruiser. The shop is asking for 12 hrs to clay the car, and 16 hrs for each truck. Of course on the estimate they put some fancy terms on it. And 4 hrs each to "reseal, rejuvenate, blah blah". Which is just waxing. Right? Does it take THAT long to clay the entire vehicle with sporadic specks?

Oh forgot to mention that it's $65/hr, so it comes to 1300 just for the trucks.

If the body shop sublet it to a detailing shop, how much would something like this be? $400?? And how many hrs would they take, the break down of it???

thx

Ed

Woah bro, you could pick up a claybar and do it yourself for about $30. Meguiars claybars are easy to find at any store, and even the Zaino clay is only about $20.

I think they're severely ripping you off, but wait for Kevin's reply. I'd like to hear what he says.

It's not my car. I am writing up an estimate for the insurance company. I tried to tell the owner, he can just pocket the money and clay it himself. He responded by saying he will just let "the professionals take care of it." He is ignorant of claying and what it does.

im not kevin, but claying for overspray is a little different as far as terms of claying. claying to clay is a just because, but when you do it andyou have overspray involved, you supposed to be real metcuouls about it so a real professional has to have an eye for it and remove all the overspray with clay, or they could go the wetsand route. but that pricing is about right for a professional job...FYI a meticulous clay job could take all day for overspray, i can just clay my trans am in about 30 minutes

??
I parked my car in a body shop b4 and there was over spray on it. I clayed it and it was smooth. claying is claying. it's on the surface of the paint. Of course they have to be meticulous about it as they are being paid to provide a service.....anywho, the lady adjuster is kewl. I told her it shouldn't cost more than $400-500 to detail it off and she knows about claying. I just wanted more info for an argument against the shop and the idiot vehicle owner.
