Angry Please help, Zaino is streaking!

My vette is black and I am a Zaino nut and have been using it for years. Never had a problem until now with a black car. When I am applying Z-5, for some reason when looking down directly in the hood, some areas are blacker than others. Like it is streaking some how when I apply it. I guess I just notice it now since this is my first black car. I am applying it evenly, but it still does it. It pretty much streaks in the way the I put it on. Does anybody have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Jon

I dont know exactly what you are doing wrong, but it does take a little learning to deal with black paint (had a black car of some type in my life every day since 1987)

All you have to do is either mist the paint where the streaking is with plain water or Z-6 and it will buff out real even......

Could also be caused by your towels not agreeing with your finish and not remove quite all of the polish....

I am not really sure what is wrong either. Does Z-1 have anything to do with this? I did put it on before hand since the dealer buffed my car. The Z-6 helps a little but not much. Although, if I rub my finger firmly along the paint, it seems to come off a little. Maybe I am just not applying it evenly and not letting it dry long enough. who knows?

Thanks,

Jon

To avoid any streaks, make sure you put Z-1 on with a totally dry applicator, do not dampen it like you do when you apply Z-2 or Z-5 and rub the Z-1 into the paint until you can barely tell that there is any Z-1 on the surface. And Z-1 does not have to dry, as soon as you rubbed Z-1 into the surface, it is ready to put Z-2 or Z-5 on top of it....

I too have a black car and it can sometimes be a pain but the results are worth it. Just make sure you apply the z-5 as thinly as you can and let it dry for at least an hour. It then comes off very easily with a cotton towel.

Kevin, I have a feeling that this is due to the Z-1. I have put about 3 coats of z-5 since then. Would it even things out more if I went ahead and reapplied Z-1 on the car again. And you said rub this stuff in until you can't see it? I take it that this is still the back and forth motion right? If I do apply it again, will it effect the Z-5 too much for what I have already installed? I wouldn't think so.

Thanks,

Jon

Yes, it might even it out with another application of Z-1, Z-1 is actually applied in a circular over lapping manor.

You should rub the Z-1 completely into the surface, no coating should be visible, Z-1 should only slightly dull the surface, do not leave any streaks or bubbles of Z-1 standing on the finish.

All Zaino products are made to work together, a coat of Z-1 on top of what you have now will only make the bond stronger...

Thanks Kevin! I can't believe all these years I have been putting Z-1 on with the back and forth motion. I guess that I never noticed this as being a problem until I got a black car.

Thanks again!!!

You can apply Z-1 in back and forth motion vs. circular, just make sure that you rub Z-1 in good and you will not get streaking, Z-1 needs to be worked in for best results.

On my black cars I also use a back-and forth application technique after applying the product first with a circular motion.
This insures complete coverage. Also you may consider getting some ZFX. This stuff really allows thin application and a 2nd or 3rd coat on the same day to insure a complete streakfree black finish. Because of ZFX the drying time is greatly decreased and the total time required to apply 2 coats is about equal to one coat plus drying without ZFX.

Hey I had the same problem with my SS (also black). It left streaks but I went ahead and used the Z-6 and they went away.
I hope that works for you
