painting problems
anyone run into problems painting a car that's been zainoed many times?
i grease and wax removed many times prior to wet sanding and many times after wet sanding but here is what i'm getting
it looks like very tiny air bubbles trapped in the clear. i'm hearing fish eye or solvent pop.
it's all PPG products.
any ideas?
thanks

Sounds like "solvent trap." Usually occurs when coats are applied to quicly. Be sure to wait 30 minutes after you base to clear, and allow your clear to become tacky, not stringy, to the touch. Solvents get trapped in the clear from the materials below and cause the little bubbles. Solvent pop looks like little craters but this is when those little bubbles have actually come to the surface.
you are exactly right. we were using a ppg product called strato clear which i'm now told was designed for small repair jobs with one of it's attributes being a quick flash. painted again last night with concept and it worked fine.
thanks
