paint estimate

i was wondering if anyone might know about how much it would cost to get my 94 z/28 repainted the factory red and black on top. the only problems with the body is there is a quarter sized dent above the right rear tire. any info would be outstanding.

Re: paint estimate

depends on where you take it. macco, or whatever it is, is usually fairly cheap. with varied results. a good body shop will probably charge upwards of 1500.

Re: paint estimate

Prices will vary widely, depending on how you approach it. At the bottom end of the price list is your typical $200 MAACO job. For this, you get a single-stage enamel finish, with no hardener and no clearcoat. Be sure to snap a pic of the car as soon as the painter puts down his gun, cuz it'll never look that nice again. Sure, it'll be one solid color, but put it next to a quality repaint and it'll look like you did it yourself with a case of Rustoleum.

At the other end of the spectrum, a complete removal of the existing finish, followed by all the priming/blocking/filling operations, will provide the foundation for high quality respray. Expect to pay a helluva lot more than $1500 for a job like this; triple that number and you're starting to get warm. I will tell you that most of the money is in the prep work, so there's an opportunity to save yourself a good chunk of change if you're willing to work for it.

Either way, good luck with your project.

Re: paint estimate

thanks for all the help on this one but i never thought a factory repaint could cost so much and as far as doin the body work myself that is out of the question because that is my worst part when it comes to cars. the only thing really wrong with the paint is the clear is peeling on the drivers rear quarter and above the passenger door handle.
