Oxidation

Ok so my cousins Black vette has really bad oxidation. We spent about 8 hours detailing it about a month ago. We got a lot of the oxidation off with rubbing compound and it looked great. Now the oxidation is coming back i was thinking wet sand and buffing it would make it better. I have never done either of those.

For those on here that do this kind of thing what would be the supplys to get and what kind of buffer should i get so i cant mess it up? And what grit should i use to wet sand?

bad oxidation that you can't get rid off usually needs t be sanded off (the clear), primered and repainted. I think you will find if you try to wetsand it out, you will burn through quickly.

Did you wax it after you cut it off with the rubbing compound?

We need pictures of the problem. Talk is cheap, we need visuals!

go slow with wetsanding. Stick with 2500 or 3k paper, always use a block. I have one spot on my car that i sanded down to black bumper. No one really sees it but it stands out to me and if pisses me off. Stupid beer

Sanding the factory finish is a gamble. There isn't a lot of clear to work with. If you insist on sanding, 2k and above ONLY. And don't try to sand it down to make it look like a show car, because you WILL burn through. I'd stick with buffing it and throwing a good coat of wax on it until you can spring for a respray. The pics look like you did a pretty good job for what you started with.
