Try a clay bar.

Medium or aggressive claybar...plan on polishing afterward.

Definetly want to clay the car and wash it, then give it a good coat of wax.

You can find a quality clay kit at any corner parts store, they are availavble from Clay Magic, Mothers, Meguiars and you can order them online from Zaino Brothers as well as numerous other online places. It is the safest least invasive means of removing overspray, road grime and tree sap there is. There is just one thing to remember, if the clay hits the ground, toss it and get a new one because if it picks up any dirt or rocks, all you will be doing is rubbing that into the paint.

When I restore a cars finish, IE a car that has come to me for the first time, I wash the car with Dawn to strip it down so it is free of any previous wax, then I clay the car, then wash it one more time with a quality car shampoo, or my favorite ever, Pantene Pro V 2-in-1, it contains a lot of vitamins and oild that help replenish the paints lost oils. Then I use a paint cleaner to remove surface scratches and brighten the finish up, and then seal it with a sealer with carnuba, and BAM! The car looks fab. I mainly stick a healthy diet of products from Ultra Car Care, they are a small operation that manufactures some of the best stuff I have ever used and is relatively innexpensive, about as much as Zaino Brothers.
