New Buffer for Christmas

Hey,
I got this new 11 in craftsmen orbital buffer for Christmas. This thing looks pretty sweet, only I don't know anything about buffers. I have never used one before.I do think maybe I should start with something smaller. What doe ya'll think? what kind does everyone use? Where can I learn how to use the damn thing? Any detailing/buffing websites? Thanks

Bad Andy

I'm pretty sure that it's an orbital buffer and those are pretty safe generally. I use a Dual Action Polisher myself from Porter Cable, the 7336 model, with Meguiar's foam pads and velcro backing plate. I generally only use the buffer for using abrasives, like swirl removers, or paint cleaning products. I've applied Zaino with the buffer too, and it turned out nicely, but I just prefer to wax by hand. It can speed up wax application too, but that's really the only benefit of applying a wax with the buffer. You basically want the buffer to do the work, and let your hands be the guide. Work in long overlapping oval motions and don't let it sit in one area spinning on the surface too long.

Here's a site I like that gives a few tips on machine polishing. Orbital Polishing

And, this site show a little more info about the kind of polisher I have, the Porter Cable, and the types of pads that are used.
