Mothers Gold Bars any good?

Well, are those Mothers Gold Bars any good? I have heard they work wonders. As a matter of fact, some 2 or more years ago a fellow from this very forum was saying how good it did to his 5.0 Stang..
But I have some minor fade-spots, (and one MAJOR fade spot on the right of the wing) on my Z. There are also a few spots were I put some damned "Finish-Restorer" crap on and it messed the paint up But I am hoping that if I use a mothers gold bar, it will restore the finish, then I will wax it.
Any input?
Thanx,
Matt

It dont repair finishes. It removes contaminants such as dead bugs and water spots. It may remove the oxidation, but you better wax the hell out of it and keep it that way otherwise the paint will fade even quicker.

Hmm.. it wont help w/ the "faded" parts? What *will* work on the faded parts as a temporary fix until next winter when I have time to re-paint it?

You can try some pigmented wax, but I doubt that will work. If its faded from oxidadtion, you can remove that with a polishing compound and a buffer. But if its faded from just being old and worn out, nothing short of a repaint will fix it.

^Well that's just plain ghey And only the wing is truely *faded* from age/sun. The other parts are kind of.. they have this layer of "Finish Restoring" crap over it. So the paint is just being covered by the dull crap. I dunno.. it's hard to explain. But maybe the Gold Bar will help remove that finish-crap i put on

the gold bar works wonders on what it's intended for. if used properly it will strip off any wax and other contaminents that are on the paint surface but it isn't a miracle worker.

i'd clay the areas and the whole car for that matter as it sounds neglected. use a nice light grade polish (preferably a cleaner) doing so in a small area to test of course. if it helps then use some good wax and your set.

don't over use the clay though, it will take off paint overtime. just as polish and sanding will.

Just remember that all clay bars, from Zaino to Mothers to Meguiars and Turtle are all the same.

Oh no they're not. I've tried'em, and they are not the same. Meguiar's was probably the worst of the bunch.

Well, I found this stuff in my friend Jims garage after I was done putting the 305 back in. I read the name, it was some Kay stuff or somehting. It said something about restoring finish. The directions said "clean car, put this stuff on in a circular motion, wait for it to dry to a haze-like finish, then buff out. Wax it." (well, that was a basic summation of what was said..).
I dunno what exactly it was, but it seemed to work for the most part on the parts that were "faded" by that spray-on crap. I am going to keep using that stuff and see where it takes me. I am going to give the car a FULL wash, then I am going to use that finish-restoring crap, then I am going to wax the car. I am thinking that it will help the car out BIG TIME.. as I cannot remember the last time it was waxed, but I *can* tell you that I have washed the car SEVERAL times since last-wax
Clay bars will even take of paint??

Hell no they arent. You obvioulsy haven't tried all of them. Zaino is the best I've tried so far, and the Mothers is pretty good as well. On the other hand, Meguiars sucks ***. The clay is way too hard, it takes much longer to use and leaves clay residue EVERYWHERE. I swear I spent more time cleaning clay residue off my car the last time I had to use a Meguiars bar than I did acutally using the clay bar.

Agreed
I like the Clay Magic bar best but haven't tried the Zaino bar.
