Meguiars Gold Class
Meguiars Gold Class
Untill I can justify spending around 80 bucks for the Zaino product Im stuck buying over the Counter Waxes and polishes.
Normally I use the Zymol. The Blue carnuba wax stuff.
Usually Im very happy with it.
Thought Id give Mequiars a shot...lots of people seem to be happy with it.
I Wash, Clay, wash, and Wax with the Gold Class....now my paint is very dull looking. I put a second coat on, and its looks even more dull. Especially the Orange Stripes.
Should I of stripped the old wax off first? Is this my problem?
Or does it just take a few good coats for the Gold Class to work well?
Any Idea's as to why Meguiars sucked so bad for me?

First, I must mention that the Zymol that you're using is made by Turtle Wax in Chicago. It's repackaged and relabled for Zymol....just a little buyer info.
Anyhow, about the GC wax. GC always left a nice shine on my older cars, but the durability flat out sucked. When did you first notice the dullness? After a wash, after the claying, after waxing, etc..?? Did you use anything else on the car? What kind of clay did you use? What color is your car?
Stripping the old wax isn't the problem because GC contains mild cleaners, so it stripped the old wax for you. Also, due to the cleaners applying more coats back to back is really of no benefit. After two good coats, you should be able to tell whether the GC is right for you. I liked the shine on GC, but mainly used Medallion and #26 for protection and shine. I used Meguiar's for a few years and they make fairly good products overall, but they are a lot of work if you use the system, too much actually for the rewards.
For off the shelf, I like Liquid Glass (AutoZone, CarQuest, etc..). Eagle1 and Mother's make decent products too. Never hurts to experiment with many products until you find the best for your money.

When I used Gold Class, I would have hazing problems if it wasn't ABSOLUTELY dry before removing it. I also had hazing when I used the quick detailer... too easy to use too much. A little bit of that stuff goes along way. Truth be told, I never really shook the haze problem until I ditched using carnuba waxes altogether. Just make sure it is dry, and when you think it is...wait some more... then buff it off. Central Florida humidity is a killer on drying times for such things.

You do not need 80 dollars worth of Zaino, one bottle of Z-2 for 12.95 plus the Z-1 for 8.95 would take the place of a bottle of Gold Class paint prep and the Gold Class wax itself.
Is Zymol really made by Turtle Wax? It seemed to work so well for me. Only problem I had was the bugs that were attracted to the smell of it while parked.
I have a 30th Anniversary Z...so its white with the hugger orange stripes.
I washed, clayed (mothers clay bar) washed lightly, dried car, then Waxed. The car actually looked shinier after the washing than it does now. After the first coat as I was initially buffing (i did allow it to haze long enough) and the shine looked pretty decent, but not as good as the Zymol shine.
As I would get further down the car, it got very dull looking.
So I tried another test coat on just the hood.
It looked even more dull after I was finished with this coat. ESPECIALLY the orange stripes.
In all honesty, the car shined better after not being waxed or washed for two weeks and then a wash.
Im going to give it another coat tonight once the heat dies down a bit, a give it even longer to haze and hopefully this will do the trick.

Hmmm, well I'm not sure what's happening in your case.
The only other thing I can think of is along the lines of "LaSSt One"s post above. Since your car is white, is it possible you aren't removing all the GC residue because it's hard to see? If the haze dries hard, it can certainly look cloudy and dull if it's not completely removed. In fact this goes for most waxes and sealants, Zaino included. After washing, you likely removed the remaining residue which brought back the shine. So, when buffing, give it a few more swipes with the towel and see it it improves any. One of the reasons I gave up on Meguiar's was it became just too hard to buff off completely. Left a nice shine and everything, but the buffing and reapplying every few weeks grows old.
Let us know how it goes!

I waxed my friends Intergra Type R which is white with Meguires and it looked great. Mainly because white is a sweet color to hide swirls and scratches..
I dont think you could tell if the car was waxed with Zaino or Meguires on a white car if your the average joe but Zaino will last twice as long..
And yes zaino is expensive but from a 1ounce bottle I can get 3coats on my TA easily..

Check my pics on page 6 of my web page. I have an easy method, and it works GREAT. I used Meguire's 3 step method, except for step 3, I use the Gold Class Wax. Well, e-mail me if you have any questions. Later.
PS: I recently washed and waxed my fiancee's grandmother's car, which hasn't been waxed in like 4 years. WOW. It looked like a new car. Her grandmother really thought we bought a new car when we showed up with it.

I have to say, I ended up checking back on my car and sure it enough there was residue wax hazed on my hood.
That stuff must take forever to dry.
All in all, my car feels "squeekier" in a smooth finished clean feel...as compared to the greasier feel of my Carnuba wax that I usually use, but the shine quality just isnt there for me. I also seem (maybe its just me) to see the micromarring more than usual.
Im not only staying away from Zaino because of (my perceived) price issue, but without having a garage all those steps in the killer FL sun, and time constraits which dictate 2 hours at most a week to be able to wax.
Maybe Ill just give it a shot. Someone tell me how happy Im going to be again to be getting up at 7 am on Fridays again?

The steps aren't any different, wash the car, apply the polish, let it dry, remove it, use an enhancer spray. Using Zaino really isn't any difference and is alot easier than using a wax. In fact you can easily apply Zaino in the direct sun, no problem, unlike a wax.
Up until the purchase of my F body 2 1/2 months ago, I had been a big fan of GC. When I got my FB (black) I immediately washed it and gave it a coat of GC. It looked OK but I thought it could look better so I gave it another coat of GC. It still didn't look too bad but not what I was hopping for. And then I used Quick Detailer. Things went from OK to not so OK. Using the QD I ended up with a lot haze. I emailed Meguairs and got somebody who said it was my fault and it had to be the towels I was using, not their product. I told him this wasn't my first goat rope and that I have always used 100% cotton towels. (No dryer sheets) Needless to say after their response and what I've read about Zaino's, the GC in going in the trash and the Zaino's is on order.
