Macco pulled through
So for all you unbelivers....... I did most of the prep work, and maaco took care of the rest. $700 for Alpine White III on the M-Technic. This paint job was quoted by 3 different shops for around $5,000. This is the real Alpine White III, I made sure of it. Beatifully done by Maaco, I have no regrets.
The Pictures don't really do the car justice, it looks 100x better in person. But heres what it looked like before hand to get an idea.

Maaco of Troy, its a nice little place by a bowling ally called Thunderbird Lanes. If anyone ever plans to do something similar like me, I became good friends with the one of the sales men there. I'll make sure he does a good job on your car too.

I picked Signature (there top one). Alpine white III needs 3 coats of Alpine White (thus III). And I didn't want the clear coat mixed in with the paint. Signature is the only one that offers Base Coat, then clear coat. It took a week to finish.... but it has 10 year shine warrenty on it.

Man, let us know how it looks in a year. Every Maaco job I've seen falls apart in that amount of time. Granted, they let the shop do the prep-work, but I would still have a hard time trusting them even just on a spray job.

It looks good from the pics, as said above the macco paint jobs I have seen did not hold up over the years real well, but that may have been the owners not taking care of their cars too.

Well, I hope not..... but I did the math in my head
First I ordered there top notch paint, which has 3 base coats of Alpine White (btw its a 100% alpine white, they had a new state of the art machine that does the color mixing so there is no human error), then clear coat. This I belive is what the dealers do.... not sure someone here hopefully knows.
Second I did the prep work, which I say is a HUGE part of a good paint job. I say prep takes 10x longer than the actual painting itself.
Plus, I get a 10 year shine warranty, so if anything were to go bad in a year.... uh oh better get maaco....

My brother had a car painted at a Maaco back in the '80s. The paint work was quite nice. They could've done a little better job with the body work (there were some slight ripples here & there), but overall it was a great job for the price.

Prep work is usually what costs so much to get done. We'll know if your prep work was good enough if you get a minor bump parallel parking and your paint comes off in a chunk.
There used to be a guy in the '50s, '60s, or '70s who was famous for painting any car any color for $30, but he wouldn't do a bit of prep work. He would spend about 15 minutes painting the car with one coat and say "where's my $30?"
