I have read that this can be used instead of Z1 but how does that work? If you take away the first step(Z1) then what goes in it's place? I thought the ZFX was an addative to make the products dry faster. How does this work Thanks.

 

Well, I still used one coat of Z1 to preclean my paint on the '02 prior to Zaino application. But now use ZFX occasionallY (when I'm applying multiple coats in a row).

ZFX not only makes the polish dry faster, but also takes the place of Z1 in providing additonal optical clarity and lustre. Basically it was a "Z1 to be used at the same time as Z2/Z5" instead of a separate step.

The Z1 is not really a precleaner like many cleaners on the market. It's main function is to chemically interact with the Z polishes (Z2, Z3, or Z5) which causes the polish to bond or harden better to the surface. Sort of like a two part epoxy, where you mix two solutions before the mixture hardens and cures. Z1 is used on the first time with the Z polishes or after multiple coats to "tighten" up the protection and gloss. It really isn't strong enough to preclean the paint and shouldn't be used for that purpose. Now, move forward to the new ZFX additive! Yes, ZFX takes the place of Z1. If you use ZFX on your first coat(s) of Zaino, there is no need to ever use Z1. ZFX acts like a very rapid Z1 basically, but goes beyond Z1 allowing instant cure time, quick drying time, and increases durability, gloss, and clarity. ZFX also chemically interacts with the polishes but makes the process very quick and easy, basically a one step system, whereas Z1+
Z2/Z5 is a two step process.

Actually, to be honest, I still use and like the Z1 too. I still think using it with ZFX makes the polishes that much better. ZFX is super when doing multiple coats in a short period, or if you need the polish to cure and dry much quicker than a normal coat of Z polish. It's really up to you though. If you want ZFX, there is never a need to buy Z1 as long as you use the ZFX ocassionally with the polishes. It can be used with each coat or whenever you like. It's all up to you!

Think of it like this, with Z-1, the Z-1 activates the polish ON the paint, with ZFX you activate the polish IN the bottle BEFORE application where with Z-1 the polish is activated AFTER application.

Really easy if you think about it like that.
