key collection...

The story began last summer when I bought my firebird. When I first saw the car I noticed that the doors and hood had accidentally come in contact with some keys. There was between 3-5 short but deep scratches on the doors and a couple decent ones on the hood.... Now that the car is in my posession I noticed that the two absolute worst places to park are in either a mall or highschool parking lot. There is now at least one key mark on every body panel including front and rear bumpers. The thing that really bothered me was that some moron decided to go as far as scratching up a 4"X4" area on my rear glass..... Now the question in this is about insurance. I know that the proper way to go about it would be to get a police report with each incident and report to insurance company. However, since most of them are only about an inch long I didnt really think to bother with police reports or insurance, but now that i stand back an look at my car and see all the key marks together...it is extremley noticeable. This may be farfetched but is there any way you think I could get insurance to pay for a repaint? Any way at all? Or would the better way be to start reporting these things as they happen and slowly get the car repainted panel by panel?

You would have to talk to the insurance. If you do the panel by panel like you said, you are going to have to pay your deductible every time. In my case it would be $500. I don't think they would do anything at all without a police report and now it is too late to get one. Crap like that is why i think insurance is a scam. I hate people that scratch somebody's car for the hell of it. They need to have their hands cut off.

Don't quote me on this, but it MAY be able to be considered a hit and run or something like an uninsured driver or one of those.

it is only a hit and run covered under uninsured motorist if you have a police report and a witness. This i know from experience.
