Picked up the model 7424 at the tool supply place today! After reading the other thread about buffers and polishers I decided to snag one for myself.
I've always liked the look of a freshly waxed car but I hated all of the elbo grease of rubbing and cleaning off the wax. This thing is AWESOME!! I was able to wax my entire Mustang in about a 1/3 of the time it takes to do it by hand. And it even does a better job too!
The pad is alright to start with but I think I am going to go over to the Meguires site and purchase the three pad set to go with the polisher. I'll try it out on the Camaro next.

I paid 130.00 for the basic 7424 with one pad. However there is a special going for it at this link. Click on the Porter Cable Ultimate Detailing Machine link on the page. I kinda wish I bought this package instead because it comes with a lot of extras.

I have yet to use it on clear coat paint, I have only used it on my '65 Mustang that has an enamel paint with no clear coat. I used Mothers Carnuba Cleaner Wax. After working with the 7424, I'll never apply wax to another car by hand again. The results are a lot better than a hand application and the job goes a lot faster too.
I am going to order the velcro locking plate and a few extra polishing pads from the link above and try it out on my '01 Camaro as soon as they arrive.
