(This is the closest I can find to being the right section for this)
I'm in the process of buying a house with a detached garage/shop. The garage was being rented out by a body shop, and still has a paint booth. A somewhat older one and nothing too fancy. The paint booth is owned by the guy who ran the body shop, and he's going to remove it and sell it if he can find a seller. If he does though, he has to pay to fix the roof where the vent comes out and whatever. I might just see if I can buy it and have him leave it there...considering the fact that he would be saving the money he'd have to spend in roof repairs and whatever, what price would be reasonable for the paint booth? I have approximately zero information on what type of booth it is, how old, whatever...just that it's "older", and it's obviously big enough for a car.
What's a ballpark price for a used paint booth? Also he has a huge air compressor in the loft of the garage that he'd be selling along with it...if nothing else I'd be interested in just the compressor, but it depends what he'd want for both. What could I expect to spend for the booth?

As someone who enjoys doing bodywork on the side, I would jump on that in a minute. But if you don't do body work and painting, it probably won't be worth much to you.
It's worth depends on a lot of things. How big is it? Does it have a good lighting system? Is it heated? What condition is it in? A new decent sized unheated booth would only cost like 5k new. I would probably off him about a grand. It dosn't seem like much, but it will take him a lot of time to disasemble and move it, to sell it.

I don't know much at all about the booth, and if it's at all expensive I'm not interested...but if it's dirt cheap (and maintenance and whatever isn't a big hassle) I'd like to have it just to have it...maybe rent it out once or twice to someone who wants to paint their car, and maybe paint one of my own at some point or whatever. Or who knows, maybe practice some on an old hood and do some body and paint work on the side. I doubt it's heated, because the garage it's in is. It has what seems to be good lighting, but it's also the only paint booth I've ever been in so I don't know how it compares to the "standard". Seems to be in good condition from what I could tell taking a really quick look at it...but I have no idea what kind of mechanical shape it's in as far as fans and whatever...
I'd imagine if you're using it on a daily basis, you have to change filters and whatever periodically...if it's basically just sitting there and getting used like once a year (or possibly not at all for years), is there anything else I'd end up having to do with it? Or can I just leave it there doing nothing (maybe keeping a car in it like a normal garage stall), and the occasional time it actually gets used just make sure it's clean inside, run the ventilation system for a while, and use it?

Looks like the guy wants $4200 for the booth and compressor together
. He says he had $10k in it new. Supposedly he has a possible buyer already, if not I'll work on him some more...He wants $1200 for just the compressor, so that would make the booth about $3k...not worth it to me, though it might be worth it to someone else. If I could get it for a grand I'd keep it just for the hell of it...but I can't justify dropping $3k on a paint booth right now.
So we'll see what happens I guess...
