Help with engine compartment

I have had several people tell me that I should not use the car wash sprayer to wash the engine and the engine compartment. They told me that it would mess up the electronics. Can someone please advise me on this. Thanks

I have a friend who 1st sprayed his engine compartment with Simple Green, and then lightly misted the engine compartment with a garden hose to clean it, and he had no "issues".

I've chosen to clean my engine compartment by hand though after asking around.

I've sprayed my engine bay (atleast 50 times) with a car wash sprayer every time I clean my car and haven't had any problems (knock on wood). Maybe, I've just been lucky. I have even set the sprayer on "jet" and "soaker" and no problems. I guess if someone can enlighten me that I am actually doing damage, I'll keep washing my engine this way.

If you have the LT1, the optispark could be killed by excess water from washing the engine.

So...an LS1 is o.k. to spray with water? I came to the board looking for the same answer. What's the best way to clean it and with what? Doing it by hand doesn't seem to get it all' unless you wanna spend an afternoon doing it.

The LS1 is much more water tolerant than the LT1. It's the opti on the LT1 that water can play hell with. The LS1 doesn't have an opti.

Spray with Simple Green and let sit for awhile.

Then take a paint brush and agitate the really dirty spots.

Then hose off. Your goal is to simply rinse off the Simple Green and dirt, NOT TO SOAK THE ENGINE. Try to avoid over-wetting electronic parts. As soon as you're done, let the engine idle for abit to dry everything off.

No. Just start it up after you've rinsed off. The goal is for the heat from the running engine to dry everything off before moisture can work it's way to electrical connections and parts.
