i never heard of just stripping the clear coat. They might be able to do a scuff and shoot but if your gona do it, do it right. Have it fully preped and painted. Good luck. Mine is in the shop now but i traded a 2000 s10 blazer for the paint job. Price is all gona depend if you get a base/clear or a single stage paint job.

Why do you want to strip the clear?? Is it peeling??
If you're just talking about scracthes and swirls, DIY first with clay bar, then scratch remover, then Zaino (or other preferred sealant)...
If it's that bad you can't fix by above or if the clear is peeling then yup entire paint job required... I've heard all kinds of price ranges, but I would figure at least $1500, but done right close to double that
