Engine and Engine bay cleaning advice...?
Hey all, I'm planning on washing and cleaning my whole car tomorrow (finally have the time!!) and I'm going to be cleaning my engine and bay. It's been a long time unfortunately, so it's pretty dirty. Just wanted to know of any cleaning tips and whatnot that will help make my day easier and my engine nice and shiny again!!LOL I figured this is the place to ask, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Well, I use Simple Green to get the hard stuff of, but Ive been told it will etch the Aluminum if you leave it and let it dry, so umm.. dont!
I use Eagle One Tire Wet on the hoses to make them shine, and if your intake is stained you might try using a SOS pad, or some light steel wool.
Other than that, alot of elbow grease and some patience and it should be shining like new!

OK thanks everyone, just another question. I went down to Lappens today and they didn't have Simple Green, is there just one specific store I have to go to i.e. Auto Zone, or should I be able to get it at any auto store? Thanks again

I use diluted Simple Green on the greasy spots, but be absolutely sure you rinse thoroughly. It can damage aluminum as stated above. In fact the Navy recently released a document that forbids the use of Simple Green on military aircraft because it can cause embrittlement. Just rinse very well!
Otherwise some soft paint brushes, a cotton mitt and a fresh bucket of car wash with a little extra soap is all I use.
Have Fun!!
