Discount car covers any good?

I have one I bought from Wall mart a number of years ago, it's just a dust cover, I used it when I useto store the car in the garage to keep it clean and so no one would scratch the sides since the garage is tight.

I'm going away this summer for a number of weeks and the car is going to be outside, I saw a cover at Target for like $30 or 40 that said 100% waterproof and breathable.
My car has Nice paint! but I'll admit it isnt perfect, has some swearls and scratches, The cover is mostly just to keep the car sumwhat clean and to keep the car dry since the T tops some times leak.

Good or bad idea?

If bad I'll just have someone in my family drive it a few times and make sure it's dry inside.

Re: Discount car covers any good?

I'd put the money towards a cover that maybe "looks" more reputable....I bought mine for around $100 off the shelf at a local auto shop...never used it outside though... I don't know the make of the cover you're looking at, but I would personally use it for indoor storage (dust, etc). Cheaper covers will break down when exposed to UV rays, acid in rain, may be very light and hold poor in wind, etc... I would use your best judgement, look to see if the cover has a warranty...usually 3, 5, or even 10 years... The one I bought for $100 has a 10 yr warranty, $50-60 ones had 5 year warrantys...

EDIT: However, in response to your question, no - it is not a bad idea provided that: it doesn't trap contaminents to the cars surface, is breathable, and is designed for outdoor use.

Re: Discount car covers any good?

I use the $20 Walmart covers on my show Daytona & this past year on my WS6, both with no problems, scratches, nothing.

A cover is there to pretty much protect the car for the elements like bird crap, sun beating & general crap falling on the car.

The cover at Walmart does just that.

My cars sit outside 24/7.

I dont think I'll bother then
I'll just ask my dad or other family member to take it for a drive or wash it atleast once while I'm gone.

I have a wall mart $20 dust cover and I use to use it when I stored the car for the winter (dont have that luxuary anymore) but I did have it on outside a few times and even the Morning Dew made the car wet so I'm not going to leave that on.

Discount covers are generic fit, some stay on, some do not depending on the shape of your car, I would not attemp to use one outside because of wind, I only buy custom form fitted covers. I use them in hotel parking lots when I go to shows.......

I saw one at Costco for $40. It had 4 different sizes I think. I looked on the back and it says an XL size would fit my generation Camaro. I was thinking about getting it.
