Cut and buff on black paint -- help
Cut and buff on black paint -- help
Can this be fixed?
My buddy picked up a 2008 GLI, deep black metallic, a few weeks ago. Some alder sap had fallen on it while at the dealership, and wouldn't come out with regular bug/tar/sap stuff. The dealership agreed to send it to a well recognized detail outfit--it's been around for years. We went to pick it up the following day.
Well, they buffed the hell out of the hood--must be a new guy. It's swirled everywhere, patterns of shiny/dull in a vertical formation. I'm not a detail expert, but it looks like they either took off WAY too much clear, or didn't finish the process (i.e. use a finer compound and pad, etc). Unacceptable.
It's going back to the detail shop today--but I'm not sure how they're going to fix it, other than cut it again. I'm worried the clearcoat will fail in a year or two if they've made it even thinner. The dealership has agreed to a repaint of the hood (rest of the car is fine) contingent on it going to the detail shop first to see if it can be fixed.
So, how will they fix it? Can it be fixed?
When it gets home tonight, I'm going to have him wash it with dish soap to strip any super wax they've put on there to cover up any mistakes. An unwaxed NEW car should look pretty much NEW, right?
Or, should we press for a repaint?

Go to the dealer and tell them the detail shop totally fuct the car and you dont want to take it back there.
