Clear coat/paint question

Clear coat/paint question
I'm preparing to get estimates to get my '95 Polo Green Z28 Convertible repainted. The paint is basically sound all over but I've got clear coat pretty much gone on the trunk lid, part of the hood and along the windows, ie the top surfaces. What kind of prep and repair is needed to repaint the car the same color?
I'm looking for information so I will be able to guage the quality of the estimates I get.

Re: Clear coat/paint question
if there is no bare metal showing, then its just a matter of giving it a quick scuff with 600 to level out any imperfections, spraying color and clear.
If there is any bare metal or plastic, then a spot prime repair need to be done then color and clear. either way there shouldnt be much difference in price.
Depending on the shop and what type of paint they use and if any body work needs to be done, it should be anywhere from 1k to 7k.

Re: Clear coat/paint question
If it's more related to just clear coat dulling and wear but the color is still good there may be an alternative:
