What should you cover up???? I must have asked this question on the tech board 5-6 times, they always say the opti, but nothing else. there has to be a few more things that shuldn't get wet.

I use Simple Green (spray), a long handled brush and rinse with a spray bottle of water. I don't cover anything but I go easy with the rinse and dry everything after. But I also go thru a bottom rinse car wash about once a week since 97 and haven't killed the opti yet (knock on wood)

cleaning engine compartment--the industrial way!

I use simple green on the underside of the hood and engine COMPARTMENT and the engine...however, I steer clear of the alternator and fuse box, as well as the ignition wires.

After that, I use a soft brush to clean the underside of the hood (mixed with carwash soap), as well as the compartment, and then pressure wash clean and again avoiding the electrical components.

As it's drip drying, I spray armor-all on the black pieces, and then use an air compressor (or even the blow feature of a shop vac) to blow the excess water and spread the armorall over the plastic pieces.

Let dry for a while...when you come back later, it will look excellent.

I just bought a bottle of Engine Brite the other day...I heard it works pretty well but haven't tried it yet. I'm going to use it in conjunction with SImple Green. Simple Green works pretty good on just about everything.

I didn't think about Armor All'ing under the hood...good idea.

As far as planning, I thought I had to cover the alternator and the distributer. But where, or what is this Optispark thing? Sorry to sound like a moron...I've heard the term but really don't know exactly what it is.

My engine needs a washing after this crappy winter. I've washed the outside a few times and am just waiting for a good wax, etc.

You have a 3.4 V6 I think only the LT1 V8's have Opti-Sparks
