Cleaning a 3.8 V6???

What is the best way to clean my 3.8 V6. I know alot of people say different things like gunk or simple green. I plan on using both but what I want to know is how to use the gunk. V6's don't ahve opti's so I don't have to worry about that. Should I be concerned with any other electrical pieces like the alternator or any wire. I was going to spray it all over the engine then just hose it off. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I would simple green and only ny hand. Although there is no opti for you to ruin with water, there are plenty of other electronics under he hood that get pissed off when they get wet.

some parts can be spayed if your careful, but like any car, if you go clean happy and start spraying hot exhaust manifolds/headers or other very hot parts of the engine you can crack them, and thats trouble

I used gunk and simple green yesterday and I did it in the morning before I even drove the car. It turned out pretty well except that the motor was smoking after I started it up. Not sure what it was...maybe it was grease deposits that were burning off. I drove it around awhile and it doesn't do it anymore.
