Unhappy Chiped Paint Touch Up Problem

A year ago I had a little mishap with my Camaro. The result was some paint chipped off the driver door sill right near the edge of the sill. I originally painted the large chipped area only to find that about half the paint stuck and half didn’t. For whatever reason, some of the paint has never chipped off, but in one spot, the paint did not stay. The reason is that the U shaped seal drags over it each time the door is opened or closed, chipping off paint that is weak. I put up with the scratch for a while as I intend to get the car repainted next spring, but I am tired of seeing it and have been trying to repaint the affected area for the past month. I have tried two different brands of touch up paint, Duplicolor and Colorkote(?), with no change in results.

What I have been doing is cleaning the area with a Duplicolor prep towelette, then I paint a thin layer of paint on, wait 30 min, paint again, wait 30 min, etc until the paint is built up to the same level as the factory paint. When I tried primer, it just scraped off with the paint, so I figured that was no help. I have never put clear coat on as the paint is glossy black and close enough for my tastes as a temporary fix. There is no clear coat on the paint that has stuck well, so I figure this is not the problem.

What can I do to get the touch up paint to stay and not chip away when the door seal drags over it? Thicker layers of paint, even thinner layers? Some sort of rubber lubricant/conditioner that wont hurt paint to make sure there is low friction?

Any help would be appreciated.

Why not take your car to a body shop and see
what they say. see if its something you can do.

you have to lightly sand it to scuff the surface so the paint has somthing to stick to if its smooth its just gonna come off I suggest using a piece of 320 grit scuff it lightly and then the paint should bond properly also if its down to bare metal you will have to prime it same procedure sand it then prime let primer dry scuff primer b4 painting lightly not going threw it..good luck !

who worked at a body shop for 10 years you or me...let me answer, that would be me. not sanding the whole car just a little bare spot so the paint will stick and when we repainted a car we sanded it down with 320 ..so when you know what your talkn about come back and talk to me then cause I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Maybe you should have been in English class instead of working at that body shop, because your grammar SUCKS!
