Can I trust the dealer on painting my hood?

On my ZO6 vette, there are some deep cut like scratches on the lower middle part of the hood. Not too bad, but they are there. They are in a 5 inch by 5 inch question. The dealer is offering to paint the whole hood since I bought the car like that and they said that they would do it for free. It is not really to bad, but I feel that if they are going to do the whole hood for free, why not. I am kinda nervous though. Do you think they can match the hood well with the rest since the car is black? Or should I be fine with it. The car is in great shape and I don't want it to be messed up because of it. Ideas?

Thanks,

Jon

I would not be worried about matching black, it's more the quality and finsh of their paint job that would worry me.

yes, and let them know how picky you are about your car, that always helps

If it doesnt come out good I'm sure you could always complain and they'd either redo it or lower the price for ya.

RE:

Find out if the dealership has their own Collision center or if they outsource the job. If it is outsourced to a local shop, you can always stop by the shop and speak to them.
We have a Land Rover/Jaguar dealer account at our shop and we've had owners actually come to our shop to remind us of the value of their vehicle, and also set their expectations of the finished product
In any case, if it is done at the dealership, talk to the body shop manager before you surrender the vehicle, just to be assured that they will redo the job if you are unhappy.
This way, you will make sure they know the vehicle will be back if you are dissatisfied!!!

I had the rollpan on my truck painted at a GM dealer with their own bodyshop...they did an outstanding job matching up the pewter with nothing more than a paint code pulled from my glovebox

Black is the easiest color to match, so i don't think you'd have any problems. As long as it is prepped good then i don't see much of anything that could go wrong.

I would ask if they plan to color sand, cut, and buff the paint after the final spray, you dont want them just to shoot it and forget it, and leave trash in the clear coat with lots of orange peel.

I would also highly suggest that you have them remove the hood and then take your car home and bring it back when the hood is ready, this way there is no chance the rest of the car will get any over spray on it or no one will bang up against it while painting the hood.

Black is an extremely difficult color to match. Wtf are you talkin about. Same that is with cleaning the car. The dealer should do a good job though. AFter all they will be using factory paint and they will computer match it for any fading that has taken place. Plus its free. Go for it.
