Bugs + Chips, etc.
I'm sure a lot of others have the same problem as me, and have found the best way to get rid of it. I have baked on bugs and some white flakes all over the front clip of my 1995 z28. Its black so everything stands out and it really really steals from the look of the car. I tried some aerosol 3m bug remover stuff that didn't do squat. These bugs are really baked on and were on there when i got the car. The hood has white flakey things on it that i can't stand too, how do i get rid of those?
THanks a lot

-Mike
You could try a mild abrasive, but if they have been on that long they are likely etched into the paint. Once they gotten that bad the only thing you can do is repair it with new paint.

My '97 is the same way its red so it doesn't show to bad unless you get really close. The marks left over by the bug have etched into the clear coat. Can a body shop sand down the clear coat and reapply a new clear coat with out fully repainting? Would this be cheaper if its possible?

If the etching hasn't done much damage to the color base coat it may be possible to do what you suggest.

They can do that, but it is not worth the time or money. They would have to be extremely careful not to compromise the clear, which would take time. Any rock chips or other flaws would not likely get corrected with such a method. More than likely you would end up with some flaws sealed under the new clear, which wouldn't look good.
It's simpler to do a color blend on the nose and clear it.
It might be worth your time to try and wet sand and buff a few of the worse looking spots. That's assuming you have given removal with a polish or other finishing abrasive a good try.
It's unusual for bugs to eat their way very far into the factory clear. It certainly does happen, but often a good portion of it can be removed with some hard work.
You may not get all of it, but a lot of it may come out. Enough to put off re-painting for some time. Definately worth a try!
