buffin out the scratches and swirl marks

How can I do what I said above without dulling the paint? What product to use? I use turtle wax polishing compound and I just dulled the hell out of the paint and left more swirl marks. I did buff it hard, but I thought that was what you were suppost to do.

Are you hand buffing or machine buffing?

I'm not really familiar with the Turtle Wax stuff you're using but if you're actually using a polishing "compound" to remove the swirl marks and blemishes then I'd recommend using an orbital buffer. You just can't compare a good machine polish to regular hand polish. Hand polish (like Zaino) is great for routine care and hiding minor blems but it sounds like you may need to go a little further.

PSU 98 has made a good point.
A Machine buffer and some good pads allow you to use rubbing compounds and polishes where needed, and does a bang up job for the results.
I've been doing my car and using 3M (@1500 grit) compound and then some Mothers Power polish to bring out the shine.

I guess that is why when I did not see any results with the "Meguair's ScratchX Remover" when I detailed my girlfriend's car earlier this year. Next time, I will use a orbital buffer.

MUGUIERS CLEANER WAX is probley the best in my opinion. Your hand will be hurting after you do your whole car but it works really really well

Its just too tough to be properly effective and buff consistently with your hand. Get a good porter cable orbital buffer, some nice buffing pads, and good product to see some real results. I am a tropi-care distributor and we offer a porter cable kit that is very effective so PM me if your interested. Good luck and if you have any questions with detailing let me know.

well when u BUFF a car with a COMPOUND it will dull the car ....thats what it should do ...the swirls are making it look dull...i am a detailer for a living and i use a buffer never have dont it by hand ...except maybe when we wet sand a scratch out ....swirls will always be there to some extent ...they make swirl removers the best by far is 3ms swirl remover....i apply it with a waffle pad with pressure and do it about 3 to 4 times over the area.....now this with a buffer....then u need to wax the car....wax will not fix your problem so u will need to take the time to use a swirl remover ...did u get the scratches out??...honestly if you have the money take the car to a professional detail shop ..its really not that easy to buff a car..get the scratchers out and swirls ...i enjoy it though ..
