brand new black truck, how to prevent swirls??
brand new black truck, how to prevent swirls??
Just got the 2006 F150 FX4 off the lot today, it had 11 miles on it.
It's FLAWLESS black paint, real glossy, a perfect mirror.
I know black is easy to swirl and scratch. I want to preserve it before I do ANYTHING to the paint. I know soon as I wash it and wipe it dry, swirls will appear, nature of black paint.
Is there anything I can do to prevent swirls, drying techniques or materials??? Should I use a terry cloth towel, a chamois, the absorber?? Whats the best option.....
I had a white car before I didn't care it would never swirl. I used the absorber.
Thanks!

wax it front to back not in circles.
dry it top to bottom and wash it front to back or top to bottom as well. wax and buff often and remember that unless it's a trailer queen in direct sunlight it will have some swirls regardless

Re: brand new black truck, how to prevent swirls??
The real rule of thumb is to wash it using only the softest of soft wash mits. If you drop the mit on the ground, throw it away. And never wash it when it's dirty or has significant debris on it... go through a touchless carwash first and then follow up with the mit.
Also when you wax, use a very soft cloth and vertical strokes only.
Or just don't worry TOO much about it but be prepared to learn how to use polishing compound properly... or pay somebody a couple hundred bucks every year to take care of it for ya.

The Camaro was black. The Mazda is white, take a guess as to why. You basically have to go completely OCD with black paint.
I figure I'll go for a Silver car next.

Clay the truck then one coat of Zaino Z1, then 4 coats of Z2. It will look like wet paint. Look at my 69 Vette in the photos section at zainobros.com thats the original paint from 1969.
I just did the SS and it looks fantastic.

zaino eh??? I alwyas hear about that stuff, I'll check it out.. I belive my neighbor uses it.
As far as the techniques, no circular motions eh?? I always thought it was the correct method to circle the wax on, hmm, I'll go read up on it.
Thanks guys, keep any more tips coming. I figure since I haven't touched the truck yet, I can't mess it up!
