Angry Brake Dust

i can't get the stuff off anymore... when i first got my car (10 months ago) the stuff would wipe off onto my fingers with ease when just touching it... now, it still comes off on your fingers, but not all of it... to clean my wheels now i have to take them OFF and SCRUB with a semi-abrasive dishwashing thingy...

did some clearcoat come off or something?

You are not using dishwashing soap to clean them are you? I take it your wheels are painted. If so, you should treat it like the painted body of your car. They should come clean with a car wash soap and a cotton wash mit. For tough stuff, use a claybar or some bug and tar remover. Then when clean, coat them with the polish/wax of your choice. I'd recommend something synthetic as it will stand up to the heat much better than a carnuba wax. With protection on there, they will be a whole lot easier to clean next time.

Lock and Load the metal polish. that will get them clean, then use a good sealer or regularly wax them to protect the finish.

As said if your wheels are painted or clear coated clean them real well with car wash or Simple Green, then I would clay them and then apply your favorite polish/wax, a synthetic polish/wax will last 4-5 times longer than carnauba wax will.

When I absoluetly can NOT get brake dust off... I use Hot Rims cleaner... takes most, if not all of it off...

If you have any stubborn little spots afterwards... try a clay bar... it worked for me.

After you are done, be sure to use something on your wheels (I use Zaino Z2)... makes future clean ups MUCH easier.

I steam clean my wheels first, then wash polish and wax them. It's worked really well so far!! I have to wash them once a week and the dust comes over very easily.

I agree with this completely. I'll use either Meguiar's Gold Class wheel cleaner or Eagle One A2Z wheel cleaner for tough brake dust problems, then follow up with a wax or sealant, like Zaino Z2. The Z2 will not prevent the wheel from collecting dust, but it will usually prevent it from "bonding" or sticking to the wheel surface. I've found cleaning the wheels much easier since I keep them polished. It usually eliminates having to use harsh chemicals on the wheel surface to clean them up. A carnauba wax will not last long on the wheel since the heat would literally melt it off.
