Bird crap, unusually hard
Bird crap, unusually hard
When i park at school, i occasionally get crapped on by birds. It is some strang stuff that is extremely hard and very adhesive. Seems to have some blueberry or something in it.
What is the best way to get this stuff off without scratching the finish of the car. I tried to use towel/water but it didnt moisten it up, By the time igot it off, i havd many new swirls I also tried tutle week I did use some sap and tar remover spray with little luck.

When you have time, apply a dampened paper towel, and keep wet for 15 minutes. Water will work fine. Your just looking to rehydrate the sh** so it will be ready for easy removal. This will soften up the excriment. Polish swirls or scratches out, then rewax/seal.....

purple power bug wash and wax, less than 5 bucks at wal mart should take care of it. If u go to target they have goerge formans bug and wheel cleaner, it contains no harsh chemicals. I detail cars semi-professionally and have used both these products with much success and no damage to my paint, some of the older petroloeum bases bug and tar removers actually fad paint and put a haze on clear coats. These usually come in metal cans. scrub with one of those one dollar bug sponges that has the string webbing around it after you have sprayed the crap with water and let the cleaner soak in. Alos a good coat of wax will always make it harder for the crap to get embedded so deep

a clay bar used by an amatuer with bird crap in it would probably act like sand paper, especially since he said its very hard. AS the stuff came off the sand paper effect of the bar would increase. This might work, but is he going to buy a new clay bar for every instance of bird crap? i think not, and since this is a constant problem not a one time thing, i would stay away from the clay, unless you want to use it as a good pre-wax paint cleaner

bert, your not right at all, if water would rehydrate the crap and remove it, so would water with a little soap in it. If u havn't noticed, soap in general tends to create a foam which has a lift action, this is true with any soap. What excel detail said, will most likely work and is the cheapest option and doesn't risk any damage so he gave good advice. But your advice defys laws of science, don't go around making claims that certain ways are the ONLY way of doing something, there is always more than one way to skin a cat. (lol) i was just giving him another option if water alone doesn't work.

Re: Bird crap, unusually hard
you could also spot pressure wash the crap off , don't pressure wash the whole car thought because that not recommended in all GM new car manuals. This is due to the fact that pressure washing sometimes washes the modern stick on emblems right off the car, or atleast loosens them up. but pressure just on the spot of paint with the bug crap would certainly remove it too.
