Aluminum rim help
Aluminum rim help
Hey all, I had some brake problems which basically seized up and gouged the rotors which in a very short amount of time dumped a TON of dust (mostly metal from the rotor) on one of my rims. It is a polished aluminum rim. Well, the car sat in the shop for close to a week getting reworked brakes and after I got it back it was snowing just about every day so going out and cleaning my rim wasn't my top priority. Once it was, however, the dust had "bonded" to the rim and normal cleaners and methods don't even come close to working on it. Ok, to cut to the chase, I used some 00 steel wool and it got a little of it off but it just didn't cut it. My question is... can I use a courser wool and is the rim going to still be shiny or is the shine on polished aluminum rims a layer like paint on a car? Thanks for any ideas and sorry for the novel.
Mothers chrome and billet or Blue magik metal polish, should do the trick. Then wax to protect the wheel. If that fails, a mild rubbing compund will definatly do it, but then you will need serious protection for the wheel.
