LT1 block and Forged 383 rotating assembly
LT1 block and Forged 383 rotating assembly
Here's the story. I built a 383, drove around for 100 miles, then decided to part out my car. These parts are in like-new condition.
The rotating assembly includes an Eagle 4340 forged crank, Eagle 6-inch 4340 H-beam rods, and Wiseco flat-top 2618 forged pistons. The assembly has been internally balanced, and is ready to go. As you can see from the pictures, the piston skirts and crank journals show virtually no wear. I'll throw in a 26K mile Cloyes double-roller timing set as well.
$1,000 plus shipping
The block is freshly machined LT1 block and here's what's done to it:
- Hot tanked
- Decked .005 in the hole
- Bored .030 over
- Honed
- Align bored and honed with Pro-Gram four-bolt caps
- Clearanced for a 3.75-inch crank
All machine was done by Race Prep (www.race-prep.com). Between the four-bolt conversion, the machine work, and the price of a core block, I have over $1,200 into this setup. I will not ship this, so any Texans willing to drive to Austin to pick it up get priority.
I'm looking to get $600 obo

If you haven't been to that point with a project car yet, you'll get there some day
jchevy,
Actually, IMHO, the parts that make up the motor are worth more than the assembled shortblock itself. Do a search and what complete motors and assembled shortblocks sell for and you'll see what I mean. However, I'd be more than happy to throw in a new set of bearings and spend a few hours bolting it back together if someone's willing to fork over more dough for it that way

I dont get your point. Assembled you could probably get $2500 for the short block, atleast. Instead, you split it up, and you are getting $1600 ($1000 for rotating assembly, $600 for the block).
Am I missing something here?
I know im not gunna find a short block for $1600. Actually, if you were closer to me, i would probably buy that block from you.

You could have just left it together and I too would have given you $1600 for it.
Good luck
Re: LT1 block and Forged 383 rotating assembly
I have a proposal. How about all future responses in this thread be directed at interest in actually purchasing the parts instead of offering free advice on how I should go about conducting business. I appreciate your concern, but since when do sellers need to justify the conditions upon which they established their pricing structure?
There are lots of people on this very board that have gotten screwed over by buying used motors supposedly in good condition. I have no intentions of adding to that tally and IMHO, it was necessary to disassemble the motor to show its true condition. Afterall, it's kind of hard to see what the pistons skirts, crank journals, and bearing surfaces look like without a complete tear down. I was more than willing to spend a couple of hours of my time to make sure everything was OK, as well as documenting everything with detailed pictures. Why? So buyers would know exactly what they're getting. I was also trying to avoid being interrogated by potential buyers, but apparantly my efforts have failed.
Experiences like this only give sellers more motivation to potentially screw buyers over. Think about that.

Jim
I'm interested in the block. If you could put me in line I would appreciate it. I have a buddy who lives in austin. He may be able to get it from you and arrange shippment for me. It may take me a couple of days to get things worked out.
I'll pm you after I contact him.
Thanks,
Kory
