FYI

Its hard to sell a car when its broken.... I would fix it them try to get your money out of the car. If you blew a gasket then something had to cause it!

If I were in NY, this would be a done deal. Wonder how much transportation to Florida would be?

Post I'll throw in my .02 here...

I just bought a 1997 Firebird (V6/M5) for my son in Florida for $3200 (very good condition, 140K miles). I had spent about a month shopping for an F-body for him. A '94 V6/A4 I looked at was going for $2650 with 140K miles. BTW, I could have bought a '94 Formula with a blown head gasket here in Florida for about this same price, but the insurance $ and his lack of driving experience (2 years) made a V6 a better choice.

For the question about transportation, transport from PA to FL was going to run me about $650, so NY should not be too much more. Check out Epinions Auto Transport Reviews before you do this. From the ones with good reviews I got quotes from, Express Auto Transport was the best one.

Based on what I saw for sale and looked at, $2900 for this Z28 as described seems like a pretty good deal, but I guess it never hurts to try & lowball...

It could have just be as simple as improperly torqued head bolts...but it could also mean a warped head/block surface which would require machine work = $$.

It's not that uncommon. I've seen many LT1 Camaros and Firebirds with blown headgaskets. It's a cast iron block/aluminum head combo. The aluminum head expands and contracts at a different rate than the block. Over the years, the headgasket MAY give out. When the mileage gets up there, this does happen in cases. Look at the ford 3.8, or the chrysler 2.5, same thing with those. As for the car overheating, I drove it that day, 420 miles to Buffalo, and 405 miles back, before it blew. It also went on the highway as I was driving, I lost the heat, and the temp started to rise. I was able to pull over before major damage. After removing the thermostat, I was able to drive home the rest of the way no prob.

I'm actually a couple of hours drive from Rochester. I don't know if he'd be willing to do that drive.
