Who would race if...

Who would race if the CPSA and Mission made a heads up 28/10.5 Tire class. This would give us guys at the bottom of the food chain a class to go heads up in. Currently there is no heads up class for slower cars to race in, even if guys weren’t competive they would still get a **** load of runs every weekend on a well prepped track and beat the mayham of Friday nights. I think that beyond keeping this class competive giving guys a place to race and tune there cars heads up will yield big turn outs, just as friday nights do.

The rules would be pretty simple:

-Max tire size is 28/10.5 slick or 28/12.50 DOT tires.
-No 4 link or ladder bar cars
-Single power adder only
-Small block NA cars must be Minimum 2700lbs
- Small block nitrous cars must be Minimum 2900lbs
- Small block supercharer cars must be Minimum 3000
- Small block Turbo cars must be Minimum 3100
- Cars over 427 CI must be Minimum 3300lbs (no power adders allowed)
-No more than 50% of a cars weight can be on the rear tires

Other than that have it fairly open and see how many people would come out and race. I think that the fastest cars would probably be in the mid - high 9’s. BUt anyone low 10's and faster would be competive. The tire is the true equalizer in this class. I think if this class was made it would be the most popular class in the CPSA within 1 year.

All coments and opinions are welcome.

is there a ET/MPH limit in this concept??? cuz those weights sound off to me... lots of NA cars running in 12s and 11s weight in or over the 3000 mark.

just a thought i could be wrong.

The only guys that would be competitive around here might be Ellis, Bob Lapp and Mike Servio. Talk with those guys. The two others that come to mind are Kurtis Tamez and Steven B, but I'm not sure this is the type of the class they built their cars for.

BTW I love this Idea...too bad I'm slow:P

there is no et or MPH limitations. Those weights are the
Minimum that a car must weight, they can weigh more than that. Even if your not competive you could still come out and gets lots of runs in as most of the first day is time trials and on sunday there is a "test" class for people who lost in the early rounds of eliminations.

that class is way to open guys will be running 8s by the second season

-add 200 lbs to the weight minimums
-go to a 275mm wide max drag radial
-limit the max nitrous jet size
-limit blower and turbo selection

Greg, start a thread on stang net too

I am looking for a class to run and so is KT and a few others. Biggest thing I see is weights. It has always been a problem for us F-Body boys. My car at best will be 3,600. MAYBE 3,500

I can not think of one early 4th gen under 3,100..even with gutted out interiors.

On the same token I know many of us do not fit into any classes due to the mods we have done. I am shooting for low 10s N/A. Then again My heads and intake knock me out of most classes. Seeing how I am heavy anyway It would not hurt my feelings to be penalized with some extra weight as long as I could race

The main thing I would like to see is that it stay Street legal with no electronics

BASIC street stuff.
Plates(EASY for old cars) with current tabs
All lights (Blinkers and brake lights plus head lights)
DOT rear tires
Mufflers exit behind driver
INteriors(two front seats, dash, door panels and carpet)

OH and last? NO CLAIMER rules!

I would be no where near the fastest in this class BTW. It would be fun to race in though

I am glad to see They are more willing to look at a new class then they were a few years ago They were just dang near un willing to look at any real EFI class then

They are not really willing to make this class, if 10 or more people show up demanding this type of class than they would. I cant see anyone run 8's anytime soon, no one has gone faster than 9.50's in over 5 years on a 28/10.

Those weights are the MINIMUM that a car must weigh.

Yes street rules would apply. Cars must have lights, horn, plates,Mufflers exit behind driver, cars must have 2 full sized seats, all of the usual CPSA rules. This will be using SLICKS, DOT tires optional, max size=28/12.50.

Good input so far boys, keep it comin...

Greg, your running a 28/10.5 rite? you've gone 9.82. You don't even have 20 full passes on your car. You don't think you'll brake 9.50s.....

Yes I am running a 28/10 tire. With the combo I had this year my car would not have gone faster than 9.70. The heads and cam were too small to go much faster, peroid. With larger parts and a good tune i might be able to get down to 9.50's or 9.60's but this will be pushing my stock block very hard and it could let go at anytime.

This is all besides the point that im only legal to 10.00

Greg,

I'm sure you've seen my posts on this same topic on the CPSA site.... 28x10.5 Ladder bar or stock Style Suspension class is a big void in the CPSA. JMO. This is pretty much what my car is setup for, but the bad news is, its setup to run well into the 8s depending on the motor combination I will be using (I have a stock block LT1 currently, that should still run 8s, but how easily and consistently is yet to be determined.

Its built for PSCA True Street, which is a mid-hi 8 second class, w/ 2 stage plates or 1 stage Foggers on SBs, and 1 stage plates on BBs. Given my LT1 motor, it is not a combination that will be a frontrunner, but after I've had my fun w/ the LT1, more power is already in the plans.

Sadly I have no plans to become a member, and drive 10 hours round trip, just to talk about a class that they don't seem very excited about doing. If they do ANYTHING in a slower headsup class, Drag Radial, True 10.5s, whatever I WILL BE THERE CONSISTENTLY. I'm not a complainer, I am willing to make a few changes if needed to make the car fit if I have to.

The car is here, the car is virtually done, and its made for this kind of racing. If I have tow to California to do so, so beit.
