A walk down memory lane (Westwood Mountain High)
With all the talk about racing at Mission with the pace car thing that happened last weekend, it got me thinking about the good ol' days of racing Camaros and Trans Ams in Vancouver. Of course I'm talking about the 1980's IROC racing series that used to go on at Westwood Race Track. You still run into the occasional Players Challenge Series car every so often.
I really miss Westwood. I used to go to the Camaros/TA's, the superbike series, and lots and lots of the vintage races. Yeah Mission is the track nowadays. But there was something neat about Westwood that I just can't put a finger on. It had history to it.
So as luck would have it, I found an old book I picked up at one of the races. Thought I'd share some photos from it.

Back in the days when cigarette companies were allowed to advertise.

The superbikes used to hit 150 mph before breaking for the hairpin. I can't imagine doing 170 mph like the record set by Andretti.
If only you could go back in time with an LS1 6 speed.
Those guys on the 2 man motorcycles were 100% insane. Literally like riding a skateboard at 100+ mph.

Somebody made a video of the old track.

Well done I must say. They have the blind hump at Deers Leep. The Honda sign by the hairpin. The 1 tree that blocks your view when you're sitting in the grandstands at the hairpin. You'll even notice that that long sweeping right hand turn before getting to the back straight stretch seems to make the car want to go the opposite way (banked wrong) just as it was in real life. (No matter how slow you went on that, you felt like your car was going to slide right off the track)

Here's a real race. (1st lap is a warm up lap, after that it's full throttle)
