Update: Suspension Problems Fixed

Gents....my torment is OVER!!! The wheel hop/tire shake that has given me such huge problems putting power down is finished.

Here is a back ground for you: I installed the 9 inch rear, custom drive shaft, twin disk clutch and BMR adjustable torque arm all at once and since then I have had VIOLENT wheel hop in 1st and 2nd gears. I took the car to one well respected local chassis shop for some lower control arm relocation brackets and to properly adjust my torque arm and I still had zero luck fixing it. Even worse is that he charged an ARM & A LEG for his services. I took it to another local guy to have a look and he said everything checked out looking good.

I looked around at other shops to give a 3rd opinion and came across Diversified Metal Work. This guy built Dal's 6 second Mustang and is relatively new to the scene. I took it to his shop and 2 hrs later I am burning RUBBER and not vibrating to DEATH! You know what the problem was??? The PINION ANGLE It was set to pos. 9 degrees when it should have been set to neg. 2! It really makes me mad that I didn't find this sooner and I didn't have the chance to get my money back from that first guy who took me to the cleaners. I think I will write him a nasty email (the first guy)

Anyways, Rob from http://www.diversifiedmetalworks.ca/ was a great guy to deal with, barely charged me for his labour and didn't try to dazel me with technical mumbo-jumbo. I will probably use him for a roll bar install if I ever need one

Andy

Wow, after all those shops you took it to, I would have thought that they would have figured out your pinion angle problem especially when they set it for you.

That blows, but congrats Mr.Andy, now hit the track this Friday my man, you should see a night & day difference hooking up my friend.

I once had a vibration, to figure it out since no adjustable torque arm, I just shimed the tranny mount up and then shimmed it down by shimming the actual brace to find the sweet spot.

PS. this is way more exciting to hear then the "graduating average" post.

Re: Update: Suspension Problems Fixed

To Do List:
1) Get Slicks - check...my size won't be in until next week though
2) Weight reduction - tomorrow night at musky's house?
3) Get some dyno time in and lean it out. 11:1 air fuel isn't cool!
4) 125 shot - maybe Craig will hook me up might be a good idea to put a larger fuel pump in too. I already have one of those cool fuel pump "trap doors"
5) Let Musky drive car into the 11's - haha...not before I pop'er cherry!

Johnny....can I rent your drag radials for this friday?

Re: Update: Suspension Problems Fixed

I have some bald DR's you guys could use. Tech might not pass them, because they can't see the wear bars, but you could bolt them on in the pits.

I think Rickerby will rent out his slicks....????

Re: Update: Suspension Problems Fixed

I need something with a 16" diameter because I still need to grind the rear calipers to clear the smaller size rim.

Re: Update: Suspension Problems Fixed

didn't you buy my rear weld prostars ? those were 15"s and just a small grind on the rear caliper fins will make them work... you don't need 16"s

it'll literaly take you 5 minutes per side .. unless you take it to a shop and get charged your other arm and leg

Use a grinder with a cut off wheel, 5 minutes max per side up and down.

BFG Drag Radials 255/50/16. They are PJ's old DR. They don't really hook too well anymore. my best 60ft with them was a 1.94. Most of my 60fts were 2.0 with them.

I remember driving PJs car on those tires before you got them .. I had to do a seriously nasty burnout to get them to stick .. their pretty much shot by now
