Street action this weekend - long read

Just when I'm starting to think that no one ever likes to run me, I get three impromptu challenges on the weekend (nothing hardcore in terms of excessive speed or busy roads though - that doesn't interest me).

First race, I just turned left onto a 4-lane road and suddenly I see this smallish blue car whip around the corner behind me. Looks like a Subaru WRX. I'm going pretty slow, about 40 km/hr and accelerating, and I can hear him revving and see him catching up fast. I hold my speed at 50 (the limit is 100) and the WRX catches up to me, passes, and then slows down to match me. That's when I see its a WRX STi - cool. I look over and the driver is looking at me - he motions forward for a race. The road is absolutely clear and we got at least a 1/2 mile till the lanes merge.

We both seemed to go at the same time and though we were even up for a second, I quickly pulled away. We only ran for about 10 seconds or so and I put about 6 lengths on him in that time. The STi doesn't seem to be strong from a roll.

Partway down the road we came to a light and he was turning left, so we got to talk for a second. We exchanged some niceties, and before I pulled away he gave me a thumbs up mouthing "Awesome".

Next, a little later on another 4-lane section, I see a C5 vette (convertable) with an older guy and what had to be his 12-yr old girl grandchild. He was trying to turn onto the road but got cut off by a truck. As I started climbing the hill away from the intersection, I notice the C5 get onto the road and quickly catch up to me (so I put the car in 3rd rather than OD). He pulls up slowly, then when he was about a length behind me, I see him get onto it hard. I figure 'what the hell', so just as his front end reaches my door, I step into it. With his momentum, he gets his back wheels just ahead of my front wheels, but steadily I real him in and start passing. After I got a length up, we both let off and coasted up to the next light. I guess I gained about 3 lengths in roughly 10 seconds or so, with him starting first and me having to catch up.

We pulled up to the next light and he was turning, but he goes, "Just talking my grand daughter out for a spin... what the BLAZES you got in that car to pass us like that!?! Nitrous?!" I just smiled. And then we both thanked each other for the brief little run.

Then Saturday night, driving down Hwy 1 late at night with a friend of mine, I'm cruising in the fast lane and slowly pass by a fox body mustang. Being dark out I could see that he had a couple of guages on the A-pillar, so I'm thinking "Hmmm... maybe he's got boost?". Anyways, he speeds up to catch me. His windows were too dark to really tell if he was lookig at me, but I put it in 3rd, waited a second, then matted it. I pulled about 5 lengths on him pretty fast, so I slowed down thinking I may have jumped him befoe he was ready. Well, he swings into my lane and pulls up quickly right on my butt. I take this as a sign that he wants to go again. So I wait a couple of seconds to give him time and I punch it again. Those headlights got small pretty quick so I slowed down after 10 seconds again after leaving him some 5-6 lengths back. I moved over to the slow lane, but he didn't slow down - he was still going full goose until he was some 10 lengths ahead of me. Obviously he was still racing. Taking him so easily, I can't imagine he was running any boost.

But my turn off came up and I split off for home. My friend was very satisfied.
A nice weekend.

Yeah, it was a nice weekend and I was lucky to find some civil drivers on very quite streets. No one got stupid.

Don't know if I'd be a match for you Andy, but I'd give it a shot. Be nice to get some TnT time for some runs. Some serious track time.

Sounds like fun there Chriss. I had a 90ish Stang looking for some action the other day. I just yelled out the window, "YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!"
