Stock M3 can smoke V8 fbody
OMFG, My buddy in west van has a M3 which is tottaly stock from brian jessel..
anyways we were cruisen around in white rock, all of the sudden this black Camaro Z28 with Red Racing stripes pulls up to us, and revs his engine.. well we rev back at him.. and then the light turns green, and my buddy steps on it and just smokes the Camaro...
i was like
HOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY ****!!!
we get to an other red light, the guy in the maro pulls up and he says **** WHAT YOU GOT UNDER THE HOOD! my buddy says "Oh just a stock E46 engine.." guys says nice car, and we all go on our own ways...
damn it was fun! what makes it quite interesting is that a 6 cylinder beat a big old v8 beast

I had a stock trans am except K&N FIPK & I smoked 2 M3's off the line & down the line, remember our cars are known for bad opti's, you don't know how many there are running around that have bad opti's, since they aren't board memebers they don't even know it
Is that the new M3's? Don't they do the 1/4 in 13's? Wouldn't want to be caught sleeping next to one.
There's also a owners group that have had those engines blow up.. No surprise that the BMW decided to bend the rules for one series to run V8's in them instead of the 6.
I still wouldn't mind driving one though

bunker: you probably smoked an M3 with a E36 engine... not the new E46's...
the new E46 engines come with stock 333HP outta a 6 cylinder.
Ken, yes it is a brand new 2003 BMW M3 with the E46 engine, and full sport suspension.
M5's do have V8's, as it helps with top speed. However, M3's coupe's are faster than M5's in acceleration.

Yeah the new M3's do very low 13's. So it should be close with a stock LS1. They could take out a LT1 pretty easily.
Then again that is comparing a $13000 dollar car with a $70000 car, it better be faster.
I love those new M3's though!!!!!!!!

The latest generation M3/M5 by BMW can easily outrun the LT1 F-Body in 0-60 tims, in the 1/4 mile and top speed. The previous generation M3's are easy to beat due to their lack of torque relative to the newer generation.

I drive AT LEAST 2 or 3 brand new M3's per week (i valet) and I will promise you, if you can drive, you'll never loose to an M3. The first night I owned my car, I pulled on a new M3 up the cut in North Van, which is the only time you would ever need to even think about worrying about an M3. I don't delieve these cars can do low 13's....MAYBE with a pro driver. There is no torque down low.

I think the issue here is whether these M3 drivers can drive....
333 crank HP is alot more then a stock LT1... so if the M3 guy is willing to take it up to 8k rpm with the short gears, he should have no problem pulling an LT1.
The LT1 might have more torque down low, however the E46 has shorter gears and the rev capability to use em. In fact, 2nd gear in an e46 M3 has a ratio almost identical to 1st gear in a stock m6 LT1. first gear in an M3 is 66% that of 1st in an m6, which means that the LT1 needs 50% more TQ to generate the same torque applied to the pavement. An M3 should literally leap off the line when driven right with it's granny first gear.

Those Bimmers are good but expensive. I know the M5's will run 12's in stock form with a decent driver, and I suspect the M3 similar, based on its power to weight ratio.
Best race I've had (and lost, barely...) was with an M5 last year. At the time, I had beaten early gen vipers, C5's, was runng 12.9 at the track, and the M5 beat me by 2 lengths (though I was starting to gain top end, he had beaten me cleanly off the line - a fair race, and he won).
Impressive cars.
