SLP weekend, Summer 2007

We are setting up a car show/autocross/cruise weekend for Summer 2007.

It will be open to all SLP-prepared cars ('96-'02 Camaro SSs, Firehawks, Firebird GTs, Comp TAs, and '96-'97 WS6 Formulas and Trans Ams)

There will be a car show and BBQ, cruise to Whistler or some other significant destination, and a autocross/track day at Mission Raceway.

I'm looking for expressions of interest from local owners.

If you own one (or more) of the cars listed above, please send me an email, and tell me if you would be interested in attending.

Last year, we had approximately 25 Firehawks attend a show in Calgary, some from as far away as Texas and the east coast of the U.S.

Thanks.

I assume I'm still eligible Pat. Although the only thing left is the hood, it nonetheless is an SLP car

I'd be interested

Re: SLP weekend, Summer 2007

Some people need to plan a vacation that far ahead. This will not be a 'one-day cruise', but a multi-day event. I'm going to have to spend some time convincing the SCCBC executive to allow a bunch of SLP-crazed F-Body owners to be allowed to run around the road race track without causing the club's event insurance budget to blow into peices. Then there's the cruise, that might turn out to be a rally instead. Then there's the reserved hotel accomodations, and the trophys, and yada yada yada...Simple! Patrick and I want this to be a class act, nothing less will do. Still wanna play?

Re: SLP weekend, Summer 2007

As Larry says, something like this takes time to prepare. I've emailed about a dozen Camaro and Firebird clubs in Canada and the Northwest U.S., and have begun receiving expressions of interest. Hopefully most of the Firehawk owners who attended the Calgary show last summer will want to participate as well.

So: to make it clear, we are looking to attract SLP-prepared cars. Not F-bodies in general. The cars eligible are as follows.

-Camaro SSs, model years '96-'02
-Comp TAs, '96-'97
-Firebird GTs (which were a suspension package offered on V6 Birds '96-'02)
-Firehawks '91-'02
-WS6 Formulas and Trans Ams '96-'97

Modded cars are welcome (mine is far from stock), so you are ok Shaun!

If you guys know any Camaro SS owners who are not active on the various boards, pass the word, and have them contact me.

Pat and Larry / I'd be happy to help with organizing if you want to delegate something to me.

It would be great to FINALLY see something like this on the WEST Coast for a change.

Now just as long as I can get it on the road by then.

LOL

Re: SLP weekend, Summer 2007

I'll attempt to clarify things, at the risk of offending some of you out there.

Patrick's list above refers to the "second sticker" cars that SLP sold, either directly or through GM dealers. Most were sold with SLP plaques displaying their Build Numbers (prior to '99 at least) and their SLP manufacturer's sticker covered up or replaced the GM manufacturer's sticker. SLP and other vendors sold, and continue to sell, SLP equipment for installation on F-Bodies (and other vehicles) but these additional or replacement pieces won't change a vehicle into a "Second Sticker" car. Hope this helps.

PS Sean, we have a bunch of work ahead and we'll keep you in mind. Thanks!

Re: SLP weekend, Summer 2007

You guys need to remember what funded the platform for SLP modded cars - V6 and Z28 platforms funded production with the majority of sales - without them, SLP would not have had cars to modify. So hopefully you can get a turn out for such an event, but I think you would do much better with all F-Bodies invited. Remember that this is not the 1960's anymore with big blocks and rare perfomance options, and the current SS's and WS-6's are not much more than a regular Z28 or T/A with some different emblems, a different hood and spoiler, and some Corvette wheels with an inflated sticker price. Not to say they are not exclusive and valued higher than a Z28 or T/A, but just don't forget where the SS's and WS-6's came from.
