Question Question for 93 guys who race at mission

Wanted to run the old 93 Z this Friday, so I called mission for some info. The guy ask me what year Z28 I had I told him 1993 he said “you have to drain your radiator”. My question for you 93 guys who raced at Mission Raceway did you have to do that? And if so how? I never drained my radiator. And why? I thought all the LT1s were the same.

From what I've heard, the coolant is slippery and if it gets on the track it can make you go "sideways into the wall" LOL. Also, supposedly the coolant eats away at the track and ruins the surface. Plus it's a b!tch to clean up.

Aren't our cooling systems exactly the same from 93-97 ?

I think you misunderstood him. He probably asked you what year your car was, and in a seperate sentence reminded you to drain your radiator as in all cars do.
"Hey, so ____"
"Alright, so what year is your car?"
"It's a 93"
"Oh okay...hmm.. so we're all set here, and remember to drain your radiator when you come down."

Anything older than 95 has to drain coolant. That goes for anything. And ya, sandeep has it right. Coolant is an absolute bitch to clean up. Very slippery.

I did not know that only applied to pre-96 cars. I knew there was a cutoff, but didn't know when. Thanks for the info.

And coolant is nasty on a track, no doubt... pretty much ends the night of racing.

If you have coolant in your system, and you blow a rad hose, or drip coolant onto the track, it ruins everyone else's night of racing.

Just fill up with water and dump in a bottle of Water Wetter. That's what I do. It also gives you a good reason to keep up with the coolant flushes + changes. Make sure it's deionized distilled water too.

So Raene your telling me if I flush out my cooling system and replace my anti freeze with deionized distilled water and add an additive like Royal Purple Ice or Pro-Blend 40 Below when I goto the track and tell them, I do not have to drain my cooling system at the track?

Humm can I drive my car around like that? The winters so far have not been that cold for my fluids to freeze, besides my car is parked in a condo garage not out side.

hell u can go there with coolant and tell them ur car is a 93 and that u have water in it .. they have yet to open my rad and check it in the 3 years i've been racing

and even if they do .. tell them u dumped all ur coolant for water but there was a little left in the motor and thats why it looks like coolant

but if u blow up and spew then everyone will be pissed off at u

IMO the rule is there for a reason. Coolant is slippery as hell on most cars it will be a bit slick but on a faster car it will spin the car in a heartbeat.

I know its a pain in the butt but its also a pain in the butt when some guy or gal spins and hits the wall and ruins the night of racing.

IMHO it doesn't take that long to drain your coolant. If it's new, just empty it into a container to reuse it later. Fill it with water and add water wetter. It's not a big job. Just make sure the water has gone all the way by opening the venting tubes.

It's safer for everyone in the long run.
