Price of gas making us import drivers?!

I don't have the TA on the road and of course with this fabulous sunny spring I have been pained not having the car to drive.

But then I realize that it would be literally costing me an extra $10 - $15 a DAY to drive the TA versus the Sunfire.

At this moment it looks like the Sunfire will be the daily driver all year around and the TA will become the weekend only vehicle - if I ever get it back on the road again.

I just paid $70 to fill the tank (which didn't even last 1 week). I just don't think about it too much .

$15 more a day How many km do you get of a tank in your T/A?

I get about 300 - 310 kms per tank and I drive 82 kms round trip to the office. About 52 - 55 litres to fill up

The Sunfire gets 600 per tank. I think it is about 40 litres to fill up.

Then of course there is the wifes all wheel drive Durango at 11.5 miles a gallon.

I like keeping my car for weekend use only too. Although my mileage is so close to what I get in my 240SX or V6 minivan that the difference isn't much... unless you consider that I run 94 in one and 87 in the others. I think that's the big savings. Getting away with lower octane.

And no, I refuse to put 87 in the car.

I think it makes sense to have a fuel efficient car for daily driving. I'm always looking into getting an ECO car (hybrid) of some form, but haven't been sold on one yet. But ford is looking at making an electric/gas Escape which may be interesting.

It pains me to watch so moany people driving around in their Dodge 1500 trucks, duallies, etc... Talking to all of them, the get 8-12 mpg max. That is a bloody waste and drain on the economic resources, IMO. Especially when they NEVER use them offroad.

A friend of mine just bought a 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi. He was all proud of the fact that he's getting 10-11 mpg... that makes me puke, personally.

The civic si was just taken off the road in favour of the camaro. I'll re-insure it in the winter and save money on gas then.

<smirk> He's been driving less than 60kph and reading Import Racer mag.

When he says "handle" he actually means "parallel park".

And how exactly does diesel change anything? Diesel is the same cost, if not slightly more than regular gas in this area. Granted, they Dodge 2500's were only 6-cylinders, but they are about 5 liters. I've never heard of a diesel 3/4 ton getting better than 15mpg (closer to 12 daily, and ~9 towing) so you'd have to be pretty damn modded to do better than an f-body in a truck that size.

I've always been an import driver - I've been driving my diesel Golf since I was 16.
