Paying for goods shipped from the US

Hey guys,

Just wondering on shipping and how brokerage charges are done. Do they call me when they arrive and I pay it by visa, or can goto the border to pay by cash. Sorry, have no clue how this works.

Thanks guys.

Thumbs up

If you are having it shipped to your house you can pay the UPS delivery guy right at your door. If you have it shipped to somewhere on the other side of the border and decide to drive it across, you will have to go in and claim eveything with customs and pay the fees there. It would actually be much cheaper to go to point roberts or somewhere and pick it up yourself instead of having UPS deliver it to your door

They will convert that total to cdn and then charge you taxes on that, i am pretty certain that nail you with both taxes. The UPS will charge according tot he weight of the item and that can fluctuate, I am not to certain on how they total that.

well I paid 140 for shipping, so that's included in the price. So I guess I'll cover the taxes then. Heres what I got:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2420690705

they added 140 for shipping, and 40 dollars for chrome lugnuts, 4 chrome locking nuts and 4 chrome valve stems.

Will post pics when they arrive.

I just got my coated MAC headers from Jet-Hot, they shipped them fed-ex 3day which cost a little bit extra but I didn't have to pay brokerage or even tax, In my opinion it was well worth the extra shipping charge!
A while ago I ordered $1100us worth of parts from thunder racing and I ended up paying UPS $300 in tax and brokerage charges, what % PST do you pay in BC?

PST is 7.5%, but usually if you are a business, you won't be charged PST.

How did you not have to pay tax when Fed Ex shipped to you? You should be charged GST for sure?

Nobody here works for the government, right? Okay, from what I've heard, most fed-ex packages automatically clear customs and go straight to their shipping depot. I've heard of people getting called to come by and open their packages for customs officials but I think most of their stuff gets by, you'd have to e-mail or phone fed-ex for a more detailed reasoning. Also, my stuff was shipped on a friday and was in Winnipeg on saturday(shipped via air) so it might have just been too fast for customs to inspect.

The other scenario is I got lucky and saved $$$$$
