Re: Ordered my cam

I don't understand you guys, I had hoped you'd learn that if you see 400rwhp in the states, multiply that by 90%, thats what you'll get, sorry. My last setup, the guy made 412rwhp at thunder Racing, I baught his cam/heads & he uploaded me his tune & I dynoed 377RWHP & that was it, nothing was wrong just Canadian horsepower, sorry to ruin your dreams. The only numbers that match up here & down south is stock dyno numbers, everything else is funny. Thunder Racing I see is almost always popping out 400RWHP+ numbers. We'll see next time I hit the Dyno, I'm hoping for 420RWHP. In the states that would prolly be 470RWHP. LOL.

Matt.

BTW who says I have a big cam? You want to know my lift numbers? Definetly not as high as you guys, I'm only at 558/558 lift both intake & exhaust, so go figure!

Re: Ordered my cam

Sure that Trex cam has some good numbers but thats about it. The power down low sucks ***. I just dont see that as being a good street cam with stock heads IMO.

Too many people look at the Trex cam, for example, see wicked peak numbers and jump on latest bandwagon and order away. It makes no sense to me at all having to spin your motor to 7k to optimize the full use of the cam especially when at that point your playing roulette with the bottom end of the motor.

Anyway, there are many cam only 400rwhp LS1s out there with very good power throughout the rpm range. Add in some stage1/2 heads, that number will increase another 25-50 easily.

Matt, you have a wicked setup. One of the best Ive seen for all around NA power. I think youll hit 415 for sure and that is damn respectable.

You Lt1ers have to keep in mind though, that Twitch was the first local to do any major modding as far as I know, the only one too. It will be interesting to see what the opinions will be once more of the locals get on the modding bus. From the sounds of it Chriss and Amit will be next so it will be interesting to see what kind of performance and numbers they put up.

There is going to be some very respectable local LS1 power soon enough.

Stay focused guys . . . thats not posted for peek numbers its posted to show how a stock head six speed ls1 takes a BIG cam with an ls6 intake easily and doesnt fall off. Its just smashing bs that these threads always come up with. I was just told here ls1's always fall off and I have seen way too many graphs proving the opposite it true with the big cams . And the trex isnt as bad down low as people think, its porpose built. I thought my cam was dead down low too untill I compared to stock Im up almost 50 RWTQ in areas but thats another subject.

FWIW my numbers are right in line with the US numbers, even a bit higher. Colonel layed out 422 through an auto with the SII cam and stage two ls6 heads which he runs mid 11's @ 121 mph on all day long. If the track times match the #'rs than theres no disputing the power imo. BTW He closed his cutout and got 396 so after seeing that im pretty happy.

The reason our numbers are always lower is simply the fact that we dont have any fbody / Ybody specific speed shops in town . . . . . .. . . yet . Almost nobody properly tunes there mods here . . . .

Re: Ordered my cam

This is true most setups aren't tuned, although I'm telling you from experience on my setup 2 years ago that came from a 412rwhp guy & dynoed 377rwhp here, & trust me there isn't many people setting up their setups like me, I made sure I had perfect valve train geometry, figured out my needed pushrod length to keep the roller centered, clearanced the guide plates to prevent rubbing, adjusted the valve train while engine is running to be very presice etc.. & As far as tunning, well thats a breeze, wish I didn't blow a header gasket that day, would have stayed on longer. Also when I was tunning a bunch of times I uploaded the same file over, I guess I was very excited & didn't put the file in the upload folder only to reupload the old ones LOL. Its ok though I borrowed 95Wagon's wideband & did my tunning at school yesterday, she pulls very nice now!

Also, FYI you need an efficient engine to run a big cam, an inefficient engine will NOT RUN with a huge cam, hence why you need higher compression with big cams in order to get them to run.

But enough flaming LS1s, they are still the better of the engines, I'm just glad I hold the record

Matt.

Re: Ordered my cam

It gets tough (and pointless almost) to sometimes compare #'s made on diffrent dynos, by different people, in different cities, with equipment THEY SAY is in the car. I wouldn't be surprised if the protoype cams are tweaked just a little...

You never know what manipulation may be occurring with the numbers. Not all operators are the same, nor all dynos callibrated the same. Unless you are doing the pulls on the same dyno on the same day, that's about the only way you can eliminate all the uncertainty.

But twitch is right about tuning options here. Not much at all.

.. u need to be your own tuning option .. I was the first one around to start tuning and I learned everything on my own, I spent countless hours reading the lt1 edit mail lists and talkin to other people... then matt started to tune after he sold his 93 and he learned everything on his own too ...

it AINT THAT HARD !

Re: Ordered my cam

It ain't hard, but time is the issue. I don't really have the time to research and learn that stuff. The basics yes, but honestly it isn't worth my time when there are others who have done it before me.

Like a lawyer learning to type so he doesn't need a secretary. Not a good use of resources.

well i chose this cam because of its drivability and its emission friendliness. it also needs very little tuning too.

i think this will work well with my future setup.you see a lot of guys and they buy the biggest cam possible but yet the match there cams with the wrong parts and they dont see the results they want.

i just want a nice daily driver.
