Opti Help

I've heard about it but never experienced it. Stumbling around 2000 RPM. Occasional surging at idle. I'm thinking optispark. I had it apart last winter when I had to change a leaky water pump. I wanted to make sure it was clean and dry so I took it apart. It was dry but not very clean so I cleaned it and sealed the housing with silicone when I assembled it. Worked fine up until about a week ago when I started having these symptoms. Am I diagnosing correctly? Suggestions? I'm thinking this is very expensive.

Re: Opti Help

well if you had water in it then its just a matter of time before it went. did you use dielectric grease when you put it back together? i say get someone who would know what it feels like to take a ride with you.

Re: Opti Help

Sounds like it - mine use to stumble and backfire and then drive fine for a while - this lasted about a month until it left me stranded on the highway.

Repairs - figure ~$1,100 at the dealer, $450 to do it yourself.

Re: Opti Help

Well that's a great trick. After all that I decided to try the obvious and check the connection to the opti. I pulled it off and had a look. Saw nothing so reinstalled it. Now it runs fine. Must have had a bit of corrosion on one of the contacts. Beats a re and re any day. Anybody else had this happen??
