New car decision
New car decision
Well in the spirit of just getting a lively discussion happening.....
I'm thinking of getting a new car. Although I just bought the Sunfire in November and I'm getting the RK Sport body kit put on it, since buying it, I have concluded that the time has come that the TA will now be a weekend only car and will not transport me daily to the office.
Given that the Sunfire was purchased with the plan of being a winter car only, I have been rolling around the idea of getting another car and selling the Sunfire.
So which one? I guess I'm pretty flexable in what to get. The Durango serves as the family car so I don't HAVE to get a four seater.
I have been thinking about the following.
- The new Chrylser 300C is really growing on me. MSRP is about $43,000 which I think is a great price. I took it for a test drive and its a great value. (even has power adjustable pedals) 345hp. Possibly a good parts aftermarket will develop.
- A C5. Possibly a two year old ZO6. I have been watching ebay and 2003 ZO6's are about $50,000 CDN. 400 hp
- A viper. I have ALWAYS loved the viper, but it certainly seems reduntant to have the TA for the weekend and a Viper as a daily driver. That seems rather ostentatious. 450 hp. A five year old GTS is prolly around $60k
- Jaguar S-type - R. This only came out in 2003 so I'd probably want to get a used one in a year or two. They are about $90k new. 405 hp supercharged.
- Some of the new caddies I think have great styling.
I have never really shown any interest in European or Japanese performance cars. Should I be looking at something?
What else. looking in the $40 - $50k range

I'd personally take a C5 platform and mod it to the **** rather then go viper. I believe the C5/Z06 is a much more capable sports car platform - lighter, better aero, and potential for just as much power for less $$$. I prefer the look and sound of the vette also
The viper has exclusivity but thats about it, unless you plan on keeping whatever you buy stock (where the newer vipers obviously outperform any vette, but only in a straight line).
I still don't understand what the purpose of this third car is... you already have a weekend car and a daily driver... is this to be a summer only daily driver? If so I say go with a drop top C5. If you keep it stock the gas mileage won;t be that bad, you could autocross it also.

I wish I had your dilemnas Shawn. I would do the ZO6 In pewter with some CCW wheels then road race/autox it. Keep the driveline basically stock and mod out the suspension.
If you do get a this third car I'll be watching very close to the "parting out the TA" threads. J/K

Out of all those choices a used C5 Z06 is the only way to fly.
Then in 2006 you trade up to the new 500HP Z06. A true N.A.
Supercar. Love the new Viper GTS, but its way too pricey for
what you get.

I vote for a hardtop Z06 of those choices. The Z06 is the only car that you can readily buy parts for. The rest are super expensive and difficult to get a hold of. There are things like BMW M5 or the benz SL500 which your clients might understand a bit better but they are not great mechanically. BTW that new hemi is just a 3.5L with 2 extra cylinders. If it was designed by the same guy (which it looks like) I would never even consider owning one.
