Like i have said in the past shaun get the motor looked at by someone else. After recently installing and going over a 383 built by terry i must admit his quality of work is well below what i would expect from a good builder. I had to fix numerous issues with the engine that shouldnt have gone past the eyes of someone who supposively knows what he is doing. You have spent enough money with him and i suggest that you go look for someone that is going to take the time to go through your issues and resolve the problem appropriately even if it is going to cost you a bit more. It will be worth it in the long run.

Thats a load of crap Shaun, sorry I don't want to sound like a jack *** but your car burnt major blue at start up & kept on going, at idle, now at idle there is very little oil getting into the valve cover area to cause a chimminey of blue smoke, also, by that time you would have heard horrible sounds from the valve train, you would have also had vacume issues since the a guide that worn out would cause the seal to either come off or fall a part & the valve would never seat properly, this would cause it to develope its on seat after time LOL & your idle among other things would stink.

Again I haven't seen your car so maybe it suffered all those things & you just never paid attention, bad valve guides & ruined seats would also cause your low compression readings you where getting.

Just to confirm gentlemen, it has not been suggested to me that there is/was a "worn guide" but that there was some other issue with respect to the guides. As I said, I did not completely understand what he was trying to tell me at the time.

Either way I have decided to pick up the short block and the heads and will solicit a second opinion from someone respected.

Having said that, I cannot see Terry giving me back a motor that has been ppulled out for a burning oil problem and then suggesting it is "fixed" if he were not pretty damn sure of the cause.

Can you imagine the implications to me and to his reputation if I put it back in order and it still burnt oil? His name would be mud, thus I suspect that he feels confident as to the cause.

Either way, I have decided to spend the money on an inspection to put my mind at rest either way.
