Monsson install

I went to Cartunes today to get an estimate on my new car stereo install. I'm getting the whole Monsoon ripped out in favor of higher-end JL Audio sub, speakers and amps. The last piece I need to purchase is a dvd head-unit and the new Alpine D-300 looks like the one I will get. After a couple of employees come out and compliment my hawk one guy says it will be an 8 hour job at $50.00 per hour. I say that sounds fair then a 3rd guy comes out and says this is a full 2-day job. He didn't even sound like he new exactly what he was doing cause he wasn't sure he could hook-up the steering wheel controls into the new system. Then some other employee is telling me how much better imports are compared to my domestic bird. That was enough for me to high-tail out of this store surrounded by rice rockets. I started a similar thread months ago and someone mentioned "Creations" in Langley. I'll give them a try or go with A+B Sound. The Cartunes guys were also putting down A+B right from the start. To me, degrading the compitition is a poor business practice. I'd rather here the good they do (if there is any). They also didn't have the Alpine dvd screen in stock so they started pushing the Kenwood. Beware of this store in Coquitlam, I believe they really don't know much about installs on f-bodys.

I wouldnt be taking my car anywhere unless it was very highly recommended IMHO. I dont think you would take you car to Cambodian Tire for an engine rebuild so why treat your stereo install any different. My 0.2 cents.

just do it yourself or find a local who knows what there doing, the install is pretty straighforward and easy, the only thing that woudl confuse me is trying hook up your radio controls to your wheel. you can try asking in the audio section to find out if its possible. i say do it yourself its not that hard to do.

I'd highly suggest the A&B sound in Langley. They have given me great support and were very knowledgable when I had problems with my girlfriends car. STAY AWAY from the A&B in Coquitlam whatever you do.

Did you have a problem with the car installation department at A+B in Coquitlam? They at least sounded more knowledgable than Cartunes.

I found a thread "death of the monsoon" at another web-site and downloaded about 12 pages of how to do this job. I would like to take on this install but would feel more comfortable with someone who's tackled this install before.

i havent done it before but im willing to help out, cant be too hard. installing the head unit (if you get a gm harness adapter) and speakers via amp should be easy, its the steering wheel controls that would boggle my mind.

post the link for the monsoon delet.

There's something I need to learn how to do. The only way I've sent pics on-line is forwarding them. I want to get my bird on Cardomain or some other web host. I've been typing since high school but my computer knowledge is limited. I printed up the "death of the monsoon" thread so I have it. I also have a digital camcorder and need to learn some editing too. I need to take before and after pics.
